Super User Alpster Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 I have been thinking for a while now that the SJ722 IMX that I built for the Stella was a little too much rod for the 1000FB, so I built the Lamiglas noodle rod. The noodle rod is cool and a lot of fun, but is more suited to panfishing. I bought a Shimano Twin Power 2500 from a forum member and it is perfect for the SJ722. Tonight I hit up Fatfishfarmer on ebay for a DSR820S GLX for the Stella, it's a dropshot rod, but I will use it for a finesse rig also. Even though I like to build rods, somehow this guy sells factory rods cheaper than I can buy a comparable blank and parts to build it myself. I don't know how he does that, but I'm in. If you are considering a Loomis rod, you have to check this guy out. Ronnie Quote
The_Natural Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Wow...paired with a Stella the fish near you should run! Err...I mean swim! That extra sensitivity should really pay off while working a drop-shot or shakey head in deeper water 8-) Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 Sweet! I know you are going to like that new rig. Congrats! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Caution buying rods from discounters. If you are buying a new rod for less than retail from companies that are sticklers about their pricing (like loomis), be aware. I saw alot of this in the ski industry. It's called "b" stock. The stuff that wasn't up to quality standards for "a" stock ( the stuff on the rack) Could be as simple as a nick in the cork, slightly off center eye(s), etc Quote

The only way to get around mandated pricing is ebay, due to the auction format. Quote

Many here on the forum. No bad reports, yet. You can bet that I will know if the rod is anything but perfect when it comes out of the box. Thanks for the heads up, I will pull the old surveyor's inspection on it for sure. Ronnie Quote

Ronnie I don't think he was speaking of Fat Fish...several of us have been buying rods from him for years, and Loomis doesn't release seconds for sale anyway. I thought he was speaking of the 'Canadian' Loomis rods at a discount. Quote

They call all their rods X-series. They may be very good rods, but I am very doubtfull that they are regular G-Loomis IMX quality. JMHO Ronnie Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 1, 2007 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2007 The DSR820S showed up here today. I was taken aback by the recoil guides, it's the first time I've seen them in person. I didn't realize that recoils are standard equipment. I will fish it and post a review. I'm a little skepitcal of these guides, so this is my chance to learn one way or the other. I'm still very stoked about the rod and am anxious to fish it with the stella. Any of you guys fishing with recoil guides, I would love to hear about your experience. Thanks. Ronnie Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 1, 2007 Super User Posted February 1, 2007 I have a BCR 803 with the recoil guides and it is the most sensitive rod I have ever used. The guides have not been a factor except with braid (sufix and powerpro). Braid causes a lot of noise. So personally, I would stay with mono. Anyway, enjoy your new rod. Quote

Thanks Fishtank, That's not good news for me, as I like power pro on the stella. If noise is the only problem, and it's not enough to spook fish, I will probably be OK. I may have to try Road Warrior's YoZuri Hybrid soft line & see how I like it. It will be an adventure anyway. Ronnie Quote
blue cat Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 when selling on e bay you don't have the over head of a shop, insurance etc. the cost of g loomis is about 60 percent of msrp. he must have a resale license to buy from them. tight lines Quote
