Ryan N Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Hello from Land O Lakes, best of luck everyone 1 Quote
SC53 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Still raining and blowing. 91 mph winds recorded in Daytona Beach so we probably had 100 here. Water in our backyard is 4” up the side of the house. Looks like a river between our homes. Thankfully we still have power…for now. 2.9 mil without power in the state. Lots of tornadoes to the east and south. My buddy in Loxahatchee had one come through his back yard, missing his 36’ Contender by feet. 3 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted October 10, 2024 Author Super User Posted October 10, 2024 It wasn’t bad up here. We didn’t lose power. Helene had worse winds for us. The lake didn’t even get above my catwalk, which it did during a rainstorm a couple months ago. It looks like no damage, and very little tree debris, because Helene already blew most of it down… After a while I may ride up to local creeks and the river and see if there’s any tidal flooding… 6 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted October 10, 2024 Super User Posted October 10, 2024 I have an old friend who lives in Ft. Meyers Florida. He's in Missouri now for a week visiting family. I hope everyone is safe, and can recover. Best luck to everyone in Florida. 2 Quote
Buzzbaiter Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I left Florida on Tuesday afternoon. I-95 northbound was packed, and southbound was all National Guard vehicles. Pretty much all the hotels below the NC state line were packed. University was closed Wednesday and Thursday; I haven’t heard anything about closures on Friday, so I don’t think it hit North Florida too bad. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 11, 2024 Global Moderator Posted October 11, 2024 Howdy Well we made it through ok all things considered. I lost fascia and soffit on the SW corner of the house which makes sense as that was it’s track SW to NE. Someone told me that track hasn’t happened in over 100 yrs! I have a 60-80ft tall 200+ yr old Heritage Oak on the side of the house that Ian trimmed up good that really bothered me thinking at one point it was goona come down, but she held. It came in at Siesta Key about 55miles from me which put us just outside of eye wall. Some may know that Siesta Key is always ranked as one of the best beaches in the US as its sand is like white powder. Everything was shaking. A 2 door glass sliding door leading outside was pulsating in and out on its track. I thought at any minute it would blow in but it also held. (That really scared me) All in all we were lucky compared to many others, it could have been much worse. Sanibel, Captiva, Cayo Costa Islands south of me took the brunt as it moved NE as the most of their land mass faced south. Venice Island, Manasota Key and Anna Maria Island to the North got hit hard also but the entire Bradenton, St Pete and Tampa area were worse according to the spotty info I’ve heard so far. I still don’t have power or the internet so I really haven’t heard any updates (I’m sure you know more) Thank You all for the comments and concern that many of you had. I appreciate it more than you could know!! Mike 8 Quote

GRiver Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Glad everyone made it through…. I know I late to reply, but this one was weird. Had power until after the storm, then power company shut down the whole area. So roll out the generator, then cell service and internet went down, tower was without power and backup depleted. Then the water started rising….. Orlando-Sanford area got so much rain,( so did we) and St John’s run south to north took awhile to get here. anyway all is ok here and glad we all made it another one 3 Quote
