When I was a kid in the Lehigh Valley we used whatever thrift shop rod/reel we could get, whatever hooks were available,and a can of corn/bread Ma was about to throw away.

Gotten back into it as an adult, got a one man pontoon rig,and finally figuring out what bait works. Still real green,but loving the learning.

Welcome from just a little south of ya. I remember fishing the Schuylkill when I was a kid, government cheese was our goto bait for large catfish.  Fun times.
