Needemp Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I use primarily mono, BPS Excell to be exact, and I change my line after 10 to 15 hours of fishing. But I am going to use Floro for a few techniques. I was wondering how long it lasts. Its tougher than mono and a lot more expensive. How long before you change it out? BTW, just a side note if you lose big bass do to line breakage. I do hold fast to the belief that if you don't change your line often, it will result in lost fish. I know this to be true due to the many big bass I use to lose from line breakage. Last year I had an 8 pounder, 6 pounder, 6 in the 5 pound range and 20 to 30 if not more in the 3 to 4 pound range. I only broke one off last year and I didn't use anything heavier than 12 pound test. Those that don't break off big bass are most of the time taking care of their line. Quote
The_Natural Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Excel lasts the least amount of time of any mono's, but it's so cheap you can afford to respool often. Fluoro lasts longer, but not as long as some people claim, like a full season. I've tried every fluoro under the sun, including FC Sniper, Gamma, and all the lower end lines. I will still change my line in no more than a month. Fluoro is more impervious to UV rays and water, but nicks and abrasions happen, and the moment I sense any I respool. I still use and love fluorocarbon, and the fact I prefer shallower spooled baitcasters makes it a little less costly on me when it's time to respool. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 29, 2007 Super User Posted January 29, 2007 flouro lasted about 10 minutes on my spool and that was it.i used cajun red cast 2 years ago and respooled my spinning rod 1 time in8 months.never had the line break and caught many 5 lbers on it.quality line should last a lot longer than 15 hours. CJ Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I respool my reels before every tournament. If no tournaments I will only change maybe once every 4 or 5 trips.I try to keep it out of sunlight when not fishing. Quote

earthworm77 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 redneck, if you keep it protected it should not degrade. Quote
Needemp Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 The Natural, I figured thats how I would do it as well. When I started feeling nicks then time to respool. How many hours in that month do you fish? As for the mono, I know Excel is cheap stuff. But I use 8, 10, 12 pound test mostly and if I used more expensive mono, and I have, I would still feel better replacing it often. BTW I should add that I replace it after 15 hours of use. I have 8 reels I use and as you know, you don't always end up using most of your combos. So I try to keep track in my mind and replace when I get to 10 to 15 hours use on that reel. Quote

Man it takes me long enough to make sure I'm ready for a tourny, if I had to respool all my rods each time... Guess that is why my primary line is still Powerpro. Quote

Nothing against braids, but I feel better in clear water if my line is nearly invisible. Therefore, I will respool more often. Quote
