Super User Mobasser Posted October 3, 2024 Super User Posted October 3, 2024 Ive posted about Mepps spinners before, and I've caught a good number of bass the last two seasons on size 3 and 4 Aglia and Black Fury Mepps. I've had the best luck on the undressed plain Mepps spinners. A friend has been doing well on the Mepps Comet model, using the 1/4 oz Comet. If you use the Mepps Comet, what sizes and colors have you done well with on bass? 1 Quote
Solution Backroad Angler Posted October 3, 2024 Solution Posted October 3, 2024 The mepps comet was one of the first lures I ever used, I used the 1/6 oz which seemed to catch more bluegill and perch for me. The 1/4 oz caught more bass for me. As far as colors go, I only used the silver and it was a pretty good producer for me. Next time I go out, I'm going to rig one on again, it's been a minute. 1 Quote
MAN Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I am going to swing by my local Bass Pro and pick some up. The one with the plastic minnow on it.....how does the minnow act during retrieval? 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 3, 2024 Super User Posted October 3, 2024 For bass I use Comets in #3 to #5, Shad is my usual go-to, and silver blade seems to work the best. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted October 4, 2024 Super User Posted October 4, 2024 Mo, a lot of the Mepps Inline spinners have worked well for me over the years fishing river Smallies. The Mepps spinners with some Panther Martins are probably my first lures for bass that I’ve started with. In all honesty the Comet Minnow never really worked out that well for me. Not even the small version for trout. But it’s not the lure, it’s me. I just never connected with it. I’m not trying to sell you on anything. You may have already tried these and maybe they didn’t work for you. But on that inline type of spinner minnows, what has worked real well over the years (old school lure) is the Fox Spin Minnow. Sort of reminds you of a Rapala minnow with an inline spinner blade on it. Only has a single rear treble on it. 3/16 and 1/4 oz. versions. I don’t throw it a lot these days but it is a confidence lure of mine. Not trying to see you on anything. I don’t work for Fox. Good fishing. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 5, 2024 Super User Posted October 5, 2024 I have several I dont use. Probably never will. I also have the Mepps minnow spinnerbait. Dont use them either . If you want them I'll ship then to you. Quote
garroyo130 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 I have a few size 4s but the old style where its the brass body vs the new size 4 bead bodies. Not sure it makes a different but the beads look ugly and cheap to me. Quote
