I picked up a used Ulterra MSI and now I am debating on which Helix to match with it. I am just looking for the best bang for my buck, I started looking at the Helix 7 but it appears the 9 is a bit better for resolution? The 10 I can't even understand what is $500.00 better over the 9?

I eventually plan on having two on my 16' tiller boat, one at the front and one at the back, but for now I am putting one up front where I fish the most.

Is the 9 the best for the money? Any reason to consider the 10 or 12?

Thanks!

I opted for the Helix 9's. Looked hard at the 10's, but for the money...I can live with the 9's. I really like Humminbird's side imaging...much better then my previous Garmin Echmap unit.

Note, I also considered the Solix, but after owning Garmin touch-screen, it's not that big of deal to have a non-touch screen fish finder.

And I don't have to keep wiping my finger marks off the screen : )

The 9 is probably the best bang for the buck, it has a resolution of 1024x600. The Helix10 is the same resolution, so you're not really gaining much for $500 other than a little larger screen, but same resolution which means larger dot pitch.

The Helix12 has a 1280x800 resolution, but it's about $1,000 more. Maybe the larger screen size and resolution is worth it to you for that money, if you're spending a lot of time looking at graphs for offshore fish, or have older eyesight (like me), or that's a drop in the bucket for your budget.
