Minimum size to keep is 54 inches for a pure strain. You’d be hard pressed to even catch one that big too which is a real trophy. Parts of Ontario also have a 54" minimum, but not where we fished. 5 hours ago, Bazoo said: How does musky taste? Like pike, which tastes like chicken. 😁 1 Quote
Bazoo Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 I have a buddy that’s eaten several bass. He said some are really good and some taste like mud, that it depends on where ya catch them. If I kill one from gut hooking I’ll eat it. I ate one last year. It tasted okay, somewhat fishy. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 10, 2024 Super User Posted October 10, 2024 Fish that taste fishy. Weird. 1 Quote

Bazoo Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 I don't care for strong fish flavor. I like as little as possible. I prefer those Cap'n D's Giant fish sandwiches. Man! Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted October 11, 2024 Super User Posted October 11, 2024 A lot of it is how you were raised. My dad always kept anything we caught. He never really understood size regulations and all that. His simple thought was, if he caught it he should be able to keep it. His idea of catch and release was to catch it and release it into his ice chest. I was like that until a few years into bass fishing. One time I even kept some big ( 12 inch) shiners I caught, and mama fried em up. But they were full of tiny bones.😂 Now , I keep some bass occasionally, but only 12-16 inch ones. When I saltwater fish , I’ll keep nearly everything that’s legal and edible. I don’t ever get nutty people asking me that always want every fish released. Thats probably a good thing… Quote
Dan N Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I used to only fish for fish that were considered good eating. Walleye, perch, gills etc… kept a lot. since I’ve turned almost exclusively to bass fishing, I have kept some here and there, would definitely say none I ate were bad. I will definitely keep badly hooked bass to eat if they gonna die anyways. A small lake near me took size limit off bass(way overpopulated) and me and my nephew kept some 10-12” bass . They were delicious. The area of Wisconsin I’m in the walleye is king, bass are not highly regarded by many. 2 Quote
