What make a spinnerbait worth $35?

The cost of premium spinnerbait hook from Gamakatsu or Owner in 25ea is over $12, Highend blades like Hilderbrandt are $1.50 ea., titanium wire frame, tungsten molded 1 1/2 oz head, premium swivels and hand tied skirts all add up. Add supply and demand for artisan skilled workmanship custom JDM spinnerbaits demand a high price

I don't sell what I make so it's not about making money.  It's about making what I want.  I buy my components in small quantity.  Just 10 or 15 years ago, I could make the same ones for 5 or 6 bucks, but prices have gone up for material.

It's probably a "supply and demand" issue.  There are two sizes, 1.5 oz and 2 oz.  Both have huge blades.  They seem to be sold out everywhere.  Maybe they're no longer made (not listed on the Jackall site) hence a premium price?

I fish with a lot of different spinnerbaits.  Some are better quality than others, but there is no way I'm paying that much for a spinnerbait.

That's the swimbait-level spinnerbait. As mentioned before, 1.5 and 2.0oz. 

If I could buy one for $35 I would, because it's a tough to replicate presentation otherwise. But we have a lot of gizzard shad eaters in Texas. Only other thing I could jam in a bunch of wood like that is a 6" swimbait... way less flash though.

No lure is worth $35 , much less a spinner bait, unless it guarantees multiple fish again and again.

If I were to buy a 2 oz spinnerbait, I would need to buy a rod able to cast it, and if I bought a new rod, of course I would feel obligated to buy a new reel.  If I buy a rod that can cast 2 oz, maybe I should buy a rod that casts 4 oz for the high end, and 2 oz for the low end.  That way I would have a rod that could cast a 4 oz. glide bait.  Large glide baits can cost well over $200 so really $35 for a spinnerbait isn't bad at all when I consider the cost of a new rod, reel, and a half dozen glide baits, maybe I should buy two.

I have a few 1 and 1.5 oz. baits from an old sponsor here and other than the extra weight being below the skirt, there is t really anything special about them. They certainly were a little more than a regular spinnerbait but not 4-5 times that. They do have a very specific set of use cases and I don't throw them much, but they work.

Nichols Depth Finder spinnerbait sells in 1.5oz @$10 with high quality components. $35 for a spinnerbait is ridiculous

It's the same thing that makes a new NRX cost $650.  People are willing to pay.  I imagine the actual cost difference between the NRX, and say a BPS Carbonlite, is negligible, but people want what they perceive to be the best and a significant number will pay the price.

 

You can buy a Cadillac, or a Lincoln, truck.  Some people do.

I remember when the Lucky Craft jerk baits first hit the scene.  $14 for a jerk bait.  I swore I would never spend that much, and that I could match them with a Rogue.

 

Now my standard is a Stunna.  $15 per.  I also have a box of MB jerk baits, some of which I ordered from Japan at $30 per, most at $25.  Don't say you'll never buy a $35 dollar spinner bait.  Next year, you'll have a box of them.

Is there any guaranteed fishing lure that exists out there?

 

I catch one fish after another on most of my lures, especially hard baits, which includes spinnerbaits. Plastics tend to not be as durable.

 

I would not pay 35 bucks for a spinnerbait. But I’ll bet it catches fish. Around here you catch pike after pike on that thing until you got sick of the slime.

Because they haven't discovered Glide Baits, or $35 spinnerbaits yet.  My shoes are held together with duct tape, and my shotgun looks like it was on the loosing side of the Civil War, but my tackle collection is priceless and growing.

It's huge, but that's about it. I like the regular DoooN spinnerbaits, I just wish they would use a better hook. Those things bend out on 2lb fish if you aren't careful and use a soft rod.

The 1/4 DOOON spinnerbaits are $12-$13. The 1.5 oz Megalo DOOON goes for $27 on the JDM site I saw.

 

A garbage fast food meal goes for $12-$15. 

 

I caught 22 bass in an hour and a half on a $25 jerkbait, and I still have it (although it does now need a little tuning, LOL). Maybe I could have done the same on a $10 jerkbait. Maybe. I'm throwing hardbaits a lot more this year, and I don't seem to be spending as much as when I was mowing through bags of Senkos, hooks, and o-rings.

 

So long as I don't bury the hook in a submerged tree, I can fish a spinnerbait for quite a while when they're well made. The thought of a $35 spinnerbait kinda makes my eye twitch, but I can't promise I wouldn't be tempted. It does come with a trailer hook after all, LOL 🫣

By all the comments on here I am guessing I am the only one that owns one then? Paid $22 shipped for mine on ebay since I collect spinnerbaits.
