DaveT63 Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 (edited) Just saw a spinnerbait online called the Jackall Megalo Doon. Price was $35, and it's sold out. What makes it worth that kind of money when no can catch bass on a $1.00 Walmart spinnerbait? Is it really that good? Edited September 27, 2024 by DaveT63 Spelling 4 Quote
GRiver Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 I’m a dollar Walmart spinner and buzz bait buyer too…. I buy different ones, change blades, add beads, etc…. I don’t cry too hard when I loose one ether. 4 Quote
crypt Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 no spinnerbait is worth that much unless you catch one on every cast......just sayin...now if it's made of gold it's under priced...... 4 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 28, 2024 Super User Posted September 28, 2024 Siebert Outdoors Cosmic spinnerbaits are my favorite premium baits. They aren't super cheap, but they are way better than bargain bin stuff. They come with wire tied skirts that last forever and a stupid sharp Owner hook. https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/categories/spinner--blade-baits 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted September 28, 2024 Super User Posted September 28, 2024 I am a believer in durability when it comes to spinnerbaits. Cheap Walmart versions for 3 bucks will catch a few fish but they will inevitably wear out sooner because of inferior components, specifically the frame. I have northern pike here, a lot of them, and they are wicked aggressive. They love spinnerbaits. That’s the primary reason I use premium versions. El cheapos would last one assault by a pike and then be done. $35 for one is a bit steep, but I’ve paid 15-20 bucks many times for one. 7 Quote

Brian11719 Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 Like a lot of things I think you get what you pay for to a point but then you start running into diminishing return on investment. In this case I like the strike king tour grade double willow and also plan on trying out the dirty jigs compact double willow but that's probably about as expensive as I'm willing to go for a spinnerbait. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 28, 2024 Super User Posted September 28, 2024 @DaveT63 I like to give them a tiny bit of bend just before the head. Just lost one today on a northern, but caught two other pike on them. Also, the usual bass or six. Quote

Super User gim Posted September 28, 2024 Super User Posted September 28, 2024 Megaladon is a badass name for a fishing lure. That alone would sell me on it. 1 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 What makes a spinnerbait worth $35? It's a combination of two things. First someone needs to put that price tag on one and second, someone needs to be willing to part with enough cash to purchase three, quality spinnerbaits because he either has way too much money to spend on fishing gear, or he is of the mindset that there is a magical spinnerbait out there that will always catch fish, you just need to pay that kind of price to get one. I prefer Stanley and Terminator SBs, but to each their own. Just don't ask me to give up my Stanleys. 6 Quote
RRocket Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 Perhaps quality of workmanship, quality of components, innovation, artistry, handmade, supply/demand, etc Any number of reasons. 2 Quote
Pat Brown Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 35$ spinner bait? Needs some zircon or some titanium or both - needs to have a spinner that uses Bluetooth to spin. Needs to have been used by a touring pro to win a tournament. Needs to have been hand *cobbled* by a true artisan in somewhere like Italy or Sweden. Every time you cast it the fish swim up to it and visibly fight each other verbally over who gets to bite etc 1 2 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 The mega bass name adds the extra money. I am not saying a $15 spinner isn’t better than a Walmart cheapie. I do not use the Walmart cheapies. However, you are going to get something drastically better at $35. Quote

Reel Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 I make my own most of the time so I've got an idea of the going price of lure components. Right now this is how I value the components: (the prices are rounded) 1/2 oz premium head and wire around 8 bucks Premium ball bearing swivel: 2 Blades (very regular): 1 Clevis, beads and acc. : 1 Skirt ( hand tied) :2 Time and talent : priceless Add it up and you are getting there. Thirty five dollars is not that far away for a store bought one. You might get some components on sale or some cheaper ones, some might say, but I like my spinnerbaits to last. 1 Quote

ike8120 Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 The Mega Strike spinner baits are pretty decent for $8.99 retail. It is the quality of the materials used vs the 1 buck Walmart ones. Would I pay 35 bucks for one , no way. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 28, 2024 Super User Posted September 28, 2024 $14 in raw materials for a spinnerbait? Sounds about $12.50 too high to even think about making money. You cant compare buying parts at Barlow's to the economy of scale of a place like Megabass. 1 Quote
