Super User BrianMDTX Posted September 27, 2024 Super User Posted September 27, 2024 Is it “weird” to buy crankbaits when I truly do not enjoy fishing crankbaits? Or simply foolish? 2 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 27, 2024 Super User Posted September 27, 2024 @BrianMDTX I own quite a few crankbaits, very aware of how productive they are but seldom throw em. 1 Quote

Or simply foolish? That sounds normal to me. What is weird is taking tried and true crankbaits that never stopped catching bass, and putting them in a box that never leaves the house, to make room in my boxes I take fishing, for new crankbaits. I proceed to catch bass on the new crankbaits and think I need more of them. It never even crosses my mind, that maybe the bass would have hit the old crankbaits I left at home. The new ones worked, so I must have more, in more colors and sizes. What is also weird, if I loose a crankbait, I have to not only buy three like the one I lost, but I have to buy 3 of another color, and 2 of another type I haven't even tried. They wont all fit in my crankbait box, so I have to put old ones, that were new ones not long ago in my injured reserve box back at home. Same scenario with spinnerbaits and topwater, I am truly weird. 1 3 Quote
HawkeyeSmallie Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 This isn't weird but it's something many of you do that I NEVER do. And that's switch colors. I know many will keep the same bait but just change the color. Me? I just change baits. Why? IDK, I'm still getting used to this. 1 Quote
Pumpkin Lizard Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 I'm the opposite. I think color is more important and I will change colors before switching lures. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted September 27, 2024 Author Super User Posted September 27, 2024 @king fisher: Your writing reminds me of Patrick McManus's columns. You're so funny you could write professionally. 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted September 30, 2024 Author Super User Posted September 30, 2024 Another way I differ is I don't use little lures, other than some smallish poppers, a little pink, wacky worm, and Mepps spinners. I tried a Ned bait once and caught about a dozen bass, but I didn't enjoy it. I'm chucking big lures long distances. I'm looking for the most active, reactive bass. No 20 casts at a lay down. Maybe four casts and I'm gone. Plus, I'm constantly fishing. Because I'm paddling, when I'm moving from one spot to another, I'm trolling. I always have a lure in the water. Quote

Rockhopper Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 lol not even close to the same as boiled peanuts. Put a small bag of salted Planter's in a Coke or Pepsi. Drink a little bit first so the peanuts fit. And make sure to drink it fairly quickly so the peanuts don't get soft. Sweet, salty, amazeballs. It was started in the South. As I understand it, workers would add peanuts to the soda on their lunch break to not have to touch the peanuts with their dirty hands. 2 1 Quote
Fishingmickey Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I fish crank baits with braid. I have Shimano reels on Diawa rods and Diawa reels on Shimano rods. Fishingmickey Quote

I've been on a lot of construction sites north and south at this point and I have yet to see this. Im both disgusted and curious to try it....that is how I'm weird...today... 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted October 1, 2024 Super User Posted October 1, 2024 How am I a weirdo? I am as proficient from the back deck as I am from the front. I will always be a finesse fisherman mainly with plastics. I don’t believe in using 20-30-50lb braid to catch on average 2 to 6lb fish. i don’t measure my fishing worth by what I spend on baits/gear. I’m sure there are a bunch more but those are just off the top of my head. Quote

Everyone says that until they try it and then I hear nothing except how good it is. If you like soda and peanuts...sugar and salt...you will like it. 1 Quote
