To most on here I am, but to others and myself not so much…

I hate so called finesse fishing using a spinning rod to wiggle an 3” piece of plastic waiting for an 1 lb fish to swim by.

No leaders or monofilament line, Ever

I use straight fluorocarbon line for every technique other than 3 and never lost a fish solely because of it.

Not sure if it would be consider weird or not,  but the majority of the time I use a fly rod, either a 6 wgt or an 8 wgt when I'm chasing bass, largemouth and smallmouth.

I pretty much always doll baits up in some way.  I can't just fish them the way they are - and yet I buy them how they come.  🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

You’re not alone.
I’ve been known to alter most at one time or another.

I put a small bag of Planters peanuts in my 20oz Pepsi.  Does that count?

Pepsi?  That is weird.  Lol.

I've become the ultimate minimalist bass angler over the past couple of years, and I catch more fish and have more convenience than ever before. In an age where people geek out over gear and tackle and have 20+ rod and reel setups and more baits and tackle than they could ever use in a lifetime (I was once guilty), I sold almost all of my stuff because I got tired of the inconvenience of it all, the plethora of options that constantly had me changing this and that and switching to this or that, etc. I kept 1 rod and 1 reel and I only use spinnerbaits and Senkos now. My rod is a Shimano Zodias 6'10" MH/F, my reel is a Shimano SLX XT 7.2:1, and my small, handheld tackle bag has a dozen or so 3/8 oz War Eagle spinnerbaits, half a dozen bags of Senkos, 3/0 EWG hooks, and 3/16 oz tungsten weights. I can burn the spinnerbait, slow roll it, wake it, fish it in a huge variety of cover, bounce it off this or that, pitch it into pockets. I can fish the Senkos weightless T rigged one moment, and then simply thread it off the same 3/0 hook and put it back on said hook wacky style (never noticed a difference in bites or performance from more traditional wacky hooks), or fish it T rigged with a weight on bottom. Versatility. Now my choices don't stress me out, the baits always catch fish one way or another, and it's super easy for me to grab my rod and bag and head to the pond (and I only fish ponds these days). Where a lot of people would feel limited or unsatisfied, I feel free, and it works for me to be ultra mobile and finely focused on just a few things at my disposal. You'd be surprised by what you can actually make work if you absolutely had to. I've caught more bass this year than I have since probably 2016. I'm never going back to over encumbrance or falling for needing this and that or this or that new shiny thing guaranteed to catch bass (so buy now!!!). I guess that makes me a weirdo.

I should mention that I did keep a stock of squarebills for when I visit family and friends back in the home state because there's a particular river dam there that a squarebill lights up the smallies, talking 20+ fish days and multiple 2-3 lbers.

I said I feel normal, not that I'am. Weird and Crazy folks don't think they're Weird or Crazy.

Now leave me be, I've got to go polish and organize my creature baits.😁

Swamp, I don’t think anything or the way you do things is abnormal or weird. It’s just your style. It works, why put yourself in positions you are uncomfortable with. I’m willing to bet some of my tackle is as old as yours, maybe older. I still throw some older Rebel, Rapala, Storm and Bombers baits. Some of my stuff has become wall hangers.
I baitcast fish, spin fish, finesse fish, the so called NED fishing, NED ? I’ve been fishing like that since the 70’s. Was taught that by old river rats back in the 70’s. But I have to give credit to old Ned for putting his work out there and to manufacturers for adopting ideas for the NED Baits out there we use.
I don’t think there is anything weird about how I fish, or what I’m using. The lures I buy I use, admittedly I have more than I need. Same for my rods but I use them.
I may not be normal because I’ve heard that way more than once in my lifetime.
I’m more anal as to some things related to fishing. I probably change my line more than anyone on here, when out on the water I don’t have my stuff out of place has to be right where I want it, I realize when boating a fish the do come off and dance on the carpet. It happens but generally I don’t want to see any bass touching my carpet. Their slime layer is what helps them fight disease. Has nothing to do with staining my carpet. I prefer people (a newbie or the curious, these are mainly adults) to use my stuff and don’t bring anything along. I’m not dealing with problems of gramps stuff he let he/her use. Mortality is a normal condition. It can and will happen. I just don’t want it to happen on my time. We are going to do everything on god’s green earth to keep them alive. No live bait for bass, it’s not needed.
I realize these are some quirks but I can’t help it.

Good for you! And even better than you do it without lugging all that gear. When I fish my pond, I take two rods with two lures and I do just fine without options.

I think one of the things that I do that most others do not, is I research. I read a lot about any subject that interests me. Guns, casting, reloading, hunting, fishing.

I'll read about a dang crankbait for 2 hours. I retain information I read normally. I also watch a limited amount of youtube videos from such people as Greg Hackney, BIll Dance, Roland Martin, Ott Defoe, and Jimmy Houston.

I pick a lure or technique, when and how to use it, learning everything I can about it, then I employ it.

I have confidence from the start normally with a lure I've researched, because I have learned from others experiences.

I read here a lot, and I thank you all for contributing to my knowledge.

I am one of those people too.  I research the heck out of almost everything I am interested in trying or buying.  I am just hardwired that way.

I will take a dropshot rod with me every time, no exceptions, knowing full well I absolutely will not use it...

I will throw a square bill for way to long before switching to something, finding success, and then switching back to a square bill - they'll want it eventually, right?

If doing something weird is needed to catch bass when conventional means will not work, then do it.

I texas rig all soft plastics, They all catch fish. I'll even Texas rig a Ned with a 5/16th oz weight on casting gear and flip it in bushes, did so yesterday.
