HawkeyeSmallie Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Anyone throw a bladed swim jig around? I love throwing a swim jig and I was thinking about buying some underspins this week. Then I see they make basically a combination of both. Any luck with them? Quote
lettuceBEEcereal Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 The Megabass ones are nice but they have wildly varying durability as far as the blade staying attached goes. 1st Gen has similar durability issues and is more like a finesse spinnerbait than a swim jig. I've seen Chinese ones on amazon/aliexpress but the colors aren't as good and I'm sure the durability is similar or worse, so I haven't tried them. Quote

looking45 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I’m not a fan of swim jigs. Underspins catch a lot of fish for me. My friends and I use Keitech swim baits on them. Prices vary, remember the more expensive ones are using better quality components. I’ve tried cheap ones where I had to swap out the cheap swivel because the blade had a hard time turning. Quote

I’ve found my hook up ratio is pretty bad and have stopped using them. Quote

They work well for me on lakes that have bait balls. If you see a lot of bluegills and single bait fish running around bladed swim jigs aren’t the juice. If you buy the megabass ones off jdm sites they range from 4-5 bucks and at that price I don’t care if they only last half a dozen fish. 1 Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted September 25, 2024 Super User Posted September 25, 2024 The purpose of a swim jig is to present a fish profile in thicker cover and not get hung up because of the shape of the head. You come through clean because of the sleek profile. Adding a blade either on the front or back is going to kill the sleekness. You’re going to catch grass. In that. Are just throw a bladed jig or a bladed under spin. 2 Quote
GReb Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 If you’re fishing cover too thick for a spinnerbait or chatterbait, a blade on the back of a swim jig isn’t going to do anything beneficial. If you want to add something extra to a swim jig to attract a bass’ attention attach a rattle pack on it. Quote
Pat Brown Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 I definitely like the profile of a small swim jig with a small Willow blade attached to the hook and I'm definitely going to give it a try this winter! 1 Quote

That's actually the one I saw that got me thinking about them. Long story short, I'm not pulling the trigger on them as my wife isn't happy with my jerkbait order I placed last night. Quote
