Hey y’all,

I have a few Red Eye Shads at mi casa. It is hard to pass up on 20% off Strike King to stock up! I always replace the hooks on these baits as follows:

Mustad Triple Grip 1x short 2x strong

1. 1/4oz: #6

2. 1/2oz: #4

3. 3/4oz: #2

This year I will change the split rings as well. I want them to be stronger but still size appropriate. What size split rings should I use for each size of RES? What split rings should I get?

Owner advertises their split rings by size & "strength"

(not sure what that means)

Either way, I use #2 & #3 depending on the tackle & line I'm using with the RED.

I only fish 1/2 & 3/4 oz baits

and the size 2 & 3 rings works well with them.

Also I'd recommend the Oval split ring at the line tine.

Same size 2 & 3 gets it done again.

As for hook size, (all short shank) on the 1/2 oz I go size 2 on the front (red) and 4 on the back.

On the 3/4 oz I go size 1 on the front (Red) and size 2 on the back.

(all of that happens south of the border and accounted for my green bass PB

an 11-11 lb freak bass.)

Just adding some spice to the discussion by pointing out that I have *heard* you can go smaller on the front hook and bigger on the back hook and get some pretty unique action out of a lipless 😏

@A-Jay thanks for sharing your split ring preferences - I'm gonna order some to try on some older lipless baits that need new hardware this winter!
