CastingClinic Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 No input on brands since Iāve been making my own. Ā About 90% of the time Iām throwing a 1/2oz and if I do downsize itās often to a single blade 1/4oz, no trailer, thrown off a spinning rod. Ā The most important part of a spinnerbait is the swivel; ball bearing swivels are a requirement. Ā Also, big blades get big bites š. Ā For trailers Iām currently running Spunk shads or BBB kamikaze swimon. Ā Fluke style trailers are a favorite for me as the spinnerbait itself will impart far more natural looking action on the trailer if the trailer isnāt trying to work against it. Ā My biggest tips are: Ā Work a spinnerbait in āloudā conditions. Ā Windy, cloudy, dirty are all things to look for and you only need one to make a spinnerbait connect. Ā Iāve caught plenty of good bass on bluebird skyās and slick water so long as itās dirty. Ā Stay high in the water column. Ā My preference is to see the bait during the entirety of my retrieve. There are times to fish deep and it can be very successful but the vast majority of the time Iām more successful calling those fish up to my bait. Ā Work cover intimately. Ā My personal best is on a spinnerbait that I threw along the inside edge of a patch of thick lily's. Ā I did this while on the other side of the lily's knowing that at best Iād get half of the retrieve before getting caught in the lilys and if I did hook a fish (and I did) that Iād be destroying the spinnerbait by horsing the fish in a fast as a could because of the thick cover. Ā These are the kind of battle plans and tactics that make a spinnerbait successful all year long instead of just burning flats in springtime. 2 Quote
KP Duty Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 I can't say I have a favorite brand, but Zorro is up there.Ā My tip- buy a Zorro short arm w/ the single colorado blade and throw it where you would normally throw a squarebill. They have a wire weedguard and can make it through the sticks. Ā 3 Quote
bottom_dollar Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Siebert Outdoors 1/2 oz compact tandem, green shad. No trailer most of the time. I like to either wind it a foot or two below the surface, or count it down and use a stop and go retrieve. Probably my best bait for big spots.Ā Need to add the big spinnerbait on the bottom to my tackle box. Ā Quote
LCG Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 War eagle 5/16oz finesse spinnerbait and their 1/2-3/4oz models. No trailer. Fished in cover, near grass and weeds, over top rocks. Varying retrieve speeds throughout the cast, bumping into cover if I can, otherwise fast pops with the reel speed to flair the skirt. Spinnerbaits and senkos are my confidence lures.Ā Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted September 24, 2024 Super User Posted September 24, 2024 I dont fish SBs as much as I should and Im sure there are tons of great ones out there, but Im partial to a couple.Ā I really like Picassos Invizwire and SS SBs.Ā They vibrate really well and theyre pretty strong.Ā Al the components are good quality. Most recently Ive become really fond of the willow bladed Molix Muscle ant.Ā It had a lot of lift for a finesse spinnerbait, I suppose because of the wire and head design.Ā It feels like a colorado blade, but it doesnt have too much flash and the skirt is very thin.Ā I think its going to work really well in the spring on those tougher days. For a full size SB in muddy water or rainy day I like a Zorro long arm aggravator.Ā They're simple, the components are pretty good and they produce some good fish for me.Ā Ā Quote
