bartnc37 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Was just reading the thread asking about line and leaders and Glen responded that he would fish tatsu on everything if he could afford it. Here's my question, where's the break even point? Would you rather fish a tatula spooled with tatsu or a zillion with invisx? The cost difference between the two would buy a lot of line. I only fish braid with leaders, tried invisx on my casting setups and thought it was a rubber band, I fish the Wisconsin river sand and snags 90 percent of the time so I like knowing worst case I'm donating a 5'leader, not 30 yards of braid or floro to the river gods 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 20, 2024 Global Moderator Posted September 20, 2024 It’s all relative to each Personally I wouldn’t use either but to answer your question if given just those 2 choices I’d use Tatsu Mike 1 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 20, 2024 Super User Posted September 20, 2024 Line or equipment? Line. It's the only thing between me and my new PB, regardless of the cost of my tackle. There is nothing more final in fishing than broken line. btw, I use Tatsu quite a bit. A-Jay 3 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted September 20, 2024 Super User Posted September 20, 2024 Neither. Time on the water is more important. You can't catch you PB or even loose one if you are not fishing. You can have less expensive but quality gear, and good strong line that doesn't break the bank. Take your saving's and go fishing more. 3 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted September 20, 2024 Super User Posted September 20, 2024 I’ll have to agree with this panel of experts and say line as it connects my gear to the fish. I use a Seaguar InvizX or Sunline Sniper leader attached to a braid mainline if I’m going to be using flouro. 1 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted September 20, 2024 Super User Posted September 20, 2024 My PB was caught on a Revo SX with Red Label. I've since upgraded to mostly Shimano reels, so using Tatsu would be a completely unfair advantage. 😆 2 2 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 So I think gear is superior to line. Drags should be set right and smooth. The right type line and line/leader for the application. 1 1 Quote
bartnc37 Posted September 20, 2024 Author Posted September 20, 2024 Ok maybe I shouldn't have named brands, maybe mid priced reel and high end line vs high end reel and mid priced line. But either way I think the line is winning the fight. I use 832 mainline and a seaguar red leader with and Alberto knot on everything spinning and casting and it works nice Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted September 20, 2024 Super User Posted September 20, 2024 It’s a personal choice. I would take the Zillion and I would throw away the Invisx and spool it with mono because line is the only thing between me and the fish. 😀 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 @bartnc37 I use 823 with Berkeley vanish for a leader. People here will think I am nuts. I do not catch huge bass compared to some here but, I have not lost bass due to line failure. Except before I started using a leader in the rocks and was only using straight braid. Quote

I still use 15 year old Bass Pro- Pro Qualifer reels that perform well. I will ask the question though that just like rods and reels there is a point (IMHO) where you pay for a name more than the actual substance of the product. I use Bass Pro Excel mono line. Have I gotten some bad spools? Yes I have but for the price, I can respool once a week if I want. 4 Quote

The ones I have are 14 yrs old now and still use at least one every outing. Mike Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted September 20, 2024 Super User Posted September 20, 2024 The lines or line combinations I used are selected for efficiency. Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 I would take the Zillion/InvizX. I like InvizX, its a solid line. If it was A tatula with Tatsu or Zillion with Red Label or Vanish, then it would be a harder decision for me. Quote
RevoSEMIpro Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 I don't know - I caught literal tons of fish on nothing but Trilene XL on Quantum Accurists until I "knew better"... Nice gear is nice, nice line is nice - we like to overcomplicate things. Quote

A-Jay I'm in agreement with A-Jay here also. The very best reel spooled with crummy line is plain no good. Your line is your connection to the fish. 1 Quote
RRocket Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Personally, I'm still not sold on the merits of running braid with a leader. I can see the advantage of braid. More sensitivity being the primary. But braid with a leader? You lose that sensitivity due to whatever stretch is inherent in the leader. At least that's been my experience. YMMV. Quote
papajoe222 Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 If you're concerned about too much stretch using a 5ft. leader of Invsix your concern is misplaced. If you're using straight fluoro and line stretch is a valid concern, Sniper would be an option. Quote

The stretch was when I spooled with straight invisix, my normal 5’ leader of red on my 832 is about perfect for me. 1 Quote
