Super User ChrisD46 Posted September 19, 2024 Super User Posted September 19, 2024 For open water finesse fishing (mainly Neko Rig / Wacky Rig and maybe Drop Shot with larger worms) , I thought I would look to research the advantages of moving up from my standard 7' M/F spinning rod and try a little something longer (which appears to be the trend with so many pro spinning rod users for above techniques) . Good rod balance , a soft tip with good back bone for reel set hook sets I believe would be key attributes for these modern , longer spinning rods . The above said - what are your favorite longer than 7' finesse spinning rods that meet the above requirements ? Quote

Super User F14A-B Posted September 19, 2024 Super User Posted September 19, 2024 Well I’m not a pro so for me 7’ gets it done on spinning. Quote
rangerjockey Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I've been using the ALX McSmalls for awhile and really like it. You, in theory should pick up some casting distance with the 7'6 rod. Quote

badfish79 Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I havent felt anything over 7' that wasnt at least slightly tip heavy (to me) until I got an Expride 7'2 ML. I want to try a Dobyns DX742sf because I trust their rods to balance the best (and I'm a fanboy), but this Expride is the best spinning rod I've actually used so far. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 19, 2024 Super User Posted September 19, 2024 G Loomis 872S NRX+. The tip is not soft but it's exactly the way I want it for wacky Senkos, Neko Rigs, and light free rig baits. It is definitely more powerful than what it is rated. It casts and loads well. Just a great rod. Quote
Hulkster Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 mine is the Loomis IMX Pro SJR901 S I use it for everything small. its 7'6 light powered and its awesome Quote

Feels slick, but is tactile when wet. Great handles for sensitivity. You can feel everything. I don't like all the rods, but there are some gems in there. I have this rod that was given to me by Gary. Also a 764 hvr baitcast rod. Both are great for sensitivity and super light weight. Quote
