I use little soft swimbaits all the time, but I've gotten interested in the the jointed hard baits recently.  How do you guys use them?  Are they worth the buy?  What time of year and situation?

Thanks!

The Bait Monkey just read this post.  He then jumped off my couch, nocked some popcorn on to the floor, and didn't even bother shutting the door on his way out.  He should be banging on your door any minute now.

The one big advantage a jointed swimbait has over a soft plastic one is that when paused, not only will it sink much slower (if at all), but some will actually turn their head as if to look behind when paused and given slack. I only own two multi jointed baits and I can tell you to hang on when you pause one, because the hits that come on that pause will test your composure.

As to when to use one, I don't have any specific situation except when the fish are keyed on a horizontal presentation vs. a vertical one.

My 1st multiple joint was 22nd Century  8” Triple Trout that could make a 180 degree turn. I didn’t like the color and had it painted rainbow trout colors, excellent lure.

The Huddleston. Wooden Castiac trout today would’ve a glide bait, sinker joint swimbait.

Big fish always feed on big baitfish given the opportunity. So if you have big fish, throw them.

I don’t throw them a lot but when the conditions are right and they won’t take a Big EZ or a Skinny Dipper the double jointed Sebile Magic Swimmer is my go to.

In addition of an erratic hard turn on slack line, if stopped after a hard pull it will turn completely around.
The rattle’s are balanced in such a way that it will sink with a slight head down angle.

Ohhh, is that when I go to Walmart for some new line and walk out with egg sinkers, a rattletrap, two squarebills, a pack of creature bait ned rigs, and a bag of flukes?  Yeah, he's one to make the budget angler break his budget.

Sort of...but more accurately it would be like you're in the market for a Malibu, so you go by the Chevy dealer and drive out with ZR1 and put three Camaros on order.  Do NOT even browse through the Facebook Swimbait groups unless you've secured a pretty good line of credit

Lets just say your going to have to change your username if you go down this hard swimbait route.

I'm just getting back into fishing and targeting green bass the most which is sorta new.

On Saturday I threw a 6" S-Waver.

Nothing even remotely interested but it sure was fun to throw around.

I can't imagine the excitement of catching a fish on something like that.  :)
