There is a thread on RBO about Recoil guides (tips) grooving. The guy reports using light # mono, not braid and the rod is fished for kings... I do realize that this instance doesn't make it a pattern but since the Recoil guides are pretty new, few people would have reported trouble yet and the fact that he uses mono and is already having trouble makes me think that some others (braid users) will find grooving.

I posted this because a lot of you have bought high end rods with Recoil guides, you might want to clean the tips and inspect them for wear, especially braid users.

The titanium alloy used in REC guides is softer than some of the higher end fuji inserts, but it would surprise me that mono could groove them.  I mean mono?! Titanium allow is most certainly many times harder than nylon.  Hmmm...I'll have to keep an eye on my BCR guides, but after a full season last year...I show no signs of wear.

Isnt the tip top on the bcr a sic or something?  I will keep an eye (pun intended) on it.  I've thrown alot of braid on one so I will check it over real good.  Wont be the first time I've had eye problems.  I had a cracked one last year.  Whatever the sic or something like that is. Split at about 7 oclock.  Wondered why my line was fraying so bad. :-?

BTW I think that its not braid that does the damage its the grit and other material it picks up.

Thanks for the heads up.

flechero,

Thanks for the heads up on recoil guides.

Tips will start to wear before the rest of the guides. Tip tops are cheap and easy to change.  Also, a Q-Tip with a little alchohol will save your guides if you fish where there is a lot of sediment and veggies that cling to your line. Only takes a few seconds. Reeling your line through a rag saturated with "Real Magic" not only cleans it, but really makes it behave. JMHO

I can't stand the sound the recoil guides make when you cast :o  I have a friend that has 4 of Gloomis GLX's with them, and he hates them too.  He wants me to put new Fuji's on for him.

I have a G. Loomis BCR803 and have not notice any grooving on the guides yet.  I will keep my eyes on them.

Thanks for the great info.

Just in case, the only line I have used on this rod is P-Line Floroclear.  I don't know if the line has made a difference but one thing is for sure this is the most sensitive rod I have ever used.

I have two BCR's and one BSR.  I love the recoil guides.  I use braid on everything.  No gooving and when the &6%#@ braid wraps itself around a guide, as it always does especially if it's a little breezy, the recoil guides, will "give" instead of break.

Yes, they are a little noisier than high quality fuji's but you give a little to get a little.

You can groove the recoils with a file but you cant groove the best sic guides with a file!  There was a test done by a few diff people and actully the SS guides and ti guides both grooved before even the worst ceramic guides aluminum oxcide guides are harder ..
