I fell in love with spinnerbaits about a month ago.

I know, I know, it's pathetic that it took me so long to discover them, but I was also frustrated by how soon they break, leaving a hook in a bass. So, I went shopping and even paid $14 a pop for titanium spinnerbaits, but those broke even sooner than the steel ones. Then someone suggested Dobyns Beast spinnerbaits and they are the best. My spinnerbaits take a lickin', but the Beast keeps on tickin'!

I strongly recommend them. The water I fish is so weedy and the north country bass are so strong that my Beast is continually being deformed, requiring me to bend it back into its original shape. Well, all that bending weakens metal, but so far I've caught scores of bass on my Beast. I bought eight of them, but am still using the first one I opened.

Who was it who suggested the Beast? I ask because all credit goes to him.

I don't use them but I took a look at this spinnerbait and it seems well built.  It' a little bit heavy on the wire ( 0.040 ) but that makes it last longer.  I make my own ( for the last 30 years) and I like 0.035.

You can help with longivity if you wrap the R bend with fly tying thread ( braided line) or put a small split ring over it.

Looks like they make them in 3/4oz, as well. That extra weight will really help them come through weeds better and keep towards the bottom.

That’s surprises me. The titanium framed original terminator would often last me years of fishing. And mine take an absolute beating because of northern pike.

The skirts on mine often need replacing after a couple outings. But the frame and components last a long time.

They last a lot longer when a person doesnt catch fish. 😀

I never fish spinnerbaits.  They break too easy and I just don't catch fish on them.  I have better luck on on in-line spinners, but I'd rather just use a chatterbait.  Maybe I'll give the Dobyns a shot and see if they turn my luck.  Could I get them at Dick's, Walmart, or Academy?  I try to avoid Bass Pro because I usually leave there with a negative bank account balance.

Yeah I have a Dobyns Beast from a member and it has held up good. Thank you. You know who you are. I also received a Megabass SV-3 as a gift for the annual fishmas on here. That is a durable spinnerbait as well. Nichols are well built but don’t last forever.

I am a spinnerbait nut. I have hundreds and many different blades. I’m not picky on durability but if they are glaringly flimsy, that’s a no-go.

I just want to say that you're not alone in coming to love a spinnerbait super late. I went from hating them to them being one of my top 3 favorite baits 3-4 years ago.

I look at them in the water and think, "Really? A bass will hit that hot mess?"

I feel stupid asking them because I'm asking about the obvious, but you do the hokey-pokey while fishing a spinnerbait, right? They don't work without the hokey-pokey because like it or not, the hokey-pokey is what it's all about. Here's an instructive video to help you. Yeah, @Glenn isn't the only one posting bass catching videos. You're welcome.

@TnRiver46 and spinnerbaits may never get along. I sent him custom spinnerbaits. I think he got a few. Ol Russell and his trusty worm are a better team

I think it’s time for all of us to come together and have an intervention with @TnRiver46. I’ll get his address, post it on here, and ask everyone to send him a spinnerbait. That’ll force him to use them. 😂

I'd say the spinnerbait is my top confidence bait.  I caught so many bass, year 'round, in all conditions all over the country on them, both largemouth and smallmouth, that I never go fishing without one tied on.  I even have a custom-made rod just for spinnerbaits.

And yes, doing the hokey-poky while fishing them is a must.

Spinnerbaits are a rabbit hole.  The JB and Jig get credit for being intricate, but the spinnerbait is up there with them IMO.  The size, blade color/ size/shape, head shape, color, trailer, skirt, wire composition/thickness and shape all play a big role in the action of the bait.  I feel like I could spend a decade and a fortune fishing just spinnerbait and wind up with more questions than answers and less money, as even the most durable aren't long for this world in comparison to other baits.  That being said I recently found one I really like.  The Molix Muscle Ant with willow blades has been good to me.  They fish like a colorado blade as far as sink rate and vibration goes, but the profile and flash remains subtle.

I think fish have seen too many chatterbaits in recent years. I don’t see many people tossing spinnerbaits anymore. That’s partially why I think they are willing to bite them again.

I don't need credit.  Happy to help and happy they are working well for you.

I can do way more with a spinnerbait then I can a chatter bait. I hang a chatter bait in ever piece of cover around . There one of my go too when it gets tough

Spinner baits have been my go to bait for 40+ years and over that time I've had many favorites. In recent years I've mostly used Booyah Convert because its made with a smaller diameter wire than most. Feel like it gives off a little more vibration than ones with thicker wire, yes they will eventually break but all will at some point.
