Bass XL Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I have a question regarding the BPS Tourney Special rods. They look like a good rod, what I was wanting to know is are they quality rods (for the price)? And if anybody has used them, can you give me some feedback? Thanks a bunch. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 27, 2007 Super User Posted January 27, 2007 good rod for the money.even better on sale at $29. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 27, 2007 Super User Posted January 27, 2007 I fish BPS Extreme's, Bionic Blade's, and cranking sticks, all are fantastic rods for the $$, I would have no reason to think the Tourny. Spec. would not be either. I have handled them out of interest many many times in my trips to BPS, and they also looked like a well made, resonable priced rod to me......I can't comment on how they fish. Reguardless of what the tackle nazis say here, you can get good rods and reels for less than a house payment. Quote
mdangler Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 nothing wrong with tourny specials, but if you have the money I would go with the bionic blades or extremes. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 27, 2007 Super User Posted January 27, 2007 I have a fishing buddy that uses the Tourney Special for all five of his Curados and he will use nothing else. He tournament fishes every weekend (spring through late fall) and does quite well with them. He purchases two new ones every year, throws two old ones away and rotates them by age. He says that the tip of the rods become to soft and flexible over time. I have fished one of his old set ups and it was very springy and loose and the cork was pretty much destroyed. It was just worn out. I sort of see his point when it comes to replacing them but I don't fish 10-16 hours every Saturday and Sunday and I don't want to have to replace my equipment that often. Quote

Vyron Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 for $29 its a nice rod but like others said, pay some extra money 2 get a lighter and more sensitive rod ( bionic blade or the extreme) Quote
CyBasser Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 for $29 its a nice rod but like others said, pay some extra money 2 get a lighter and more sensitive rod ( bionic blade or the extreme) Yeah, but that little bass that Vyron is holding in his avatar was caught on a T.S.! Personal opinion: Best bass rod around in the $29 range! I have used mine heavily throughout 2005 and 2006 and have been very satisfied, especially for working soft plastics... Quote
Tpayneful Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I bought a 6' 6" Medium spinning Tourney Special Rod last year. On my first fishing trip in Florida, I caught a 4lb bass on it. I liked the rod and its performance. In December, I ordered 7' M and 6' 6" M casting rods for this year. The have performed great practicing in my back yard ;D I think they are a fantastic rod when they are on sale for $29! Quote
flyphisher # Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I ended up with a TS 7' MH buying a used reel off of a friend. I hated the rod until I started throwing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits with it. Its great for what I use it for. Cant beat the action and cushion it provides. Quote
