clemsondds Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Lost my rod that use for small swim baits today. So need to replace it. Just curious what you all are using. Thinking either NRX, Steez, GLX, or MB p5. I know you don’t have to use an ultra high end rod, but I like lightweight rods and just enjoy having that increased sensitivity. Anyone use a NRX, Steez, or something else? Let me know what you use. Thanks Quote
Loomis13 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 I have the 872s and it’s great. I like a little more flex into the blank and use the 7’6” steez for baits like this. Quote
clemsondds Posted September 10, 2024 Author Posted September 10, 2024 Sorry…forgot to mention…casting only. Not a fan of spinning rods. I have them and use them…but only when it’s a clear advantage to using them. Thanks! Quote

It's always got something else tied on though. Maybe I'll pick up a second one. I think I was going for something around the 7'2M area. 1 Quote

Puggz Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Dobyn's DC 734C, comes in either split grip or full grip. Not as high end as the others mentioned here but I've never been happier and this is coming from a guy who loves P5s. 1 Quote
badfish79 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 +1 for Dobyns DC734C. I get curious to upgrade it every now and then to a DX744, but I always end up sticking with the DC. I cant imagine a better, more balanced blank for small swimbaits. I even have a DX743C that I thought would be better for small swimbaits, but I keep going back to the DC. The DX at least covers my finesse jigs needs so it wasn't a total waste of money. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 10, 2024 Super User Posted September 10, 2024 I picked up the Megabass P5 Whippet earlier this year and it has been a lot of fun to fish. I throw all sorts of small swimbaits on it. Everything from the Megabass Spark Shad to a 6th Sense Whale. I do like the NRX+ 802C but Whippet is just more fun. The sensitivity on it is as good or better than the 802C and it has some power to it despite having a light soft tip. Quote

ABrugs Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Depending on the size, I'd recommend a G. Loomis 842C MBR. I had the NRX+ version and sold it, which was a mistake and lesson learned. I recently purchased a GLX 842C MBR and will be throwing smaller swimbaits (1/4) on this. Quote

clemsondds Posted September 11, 2024 Author Posted September 11, 2024 Thank you all! I picked up another poison adrena 6'11m just bc a local shop had one and he gave me a good deal on it. I'm going to try that and see if it works pretty good; if not, I know several other techniques I could use that rod for and will be back at the search ha. I do really want a nrx+ 842c...hard to pay that much for a moving bait rod, but I just find that NRX rods are almost always worth it. Thanks again for everyone's recommendations Quote
