The color of the mirror is not cosmetic. The color of the mirror absolutely impacts the color you see through the lens beneath it.  If the mirror is blue then it reflects blue light and the lens beneath it will make things look gray.

Don't you remember the old cheesy "Blue Blockers" sun glass commercial?

Blue mirror - shifts colors towards yellow
Red Mirror - shifts colors towards blue/purple
Green mirror - shifts colors towards rose/pink
Gold mirror - shifts colors towards green
Yellow mirror - shifts colors towards blue/green
Teal mirror - shifts colors towards magenta
Silver mirror - tends to darken without much shift in color

I am sorry to say, you are dead wrong, at least in regards to modern high end polarized lenses, not so sure on Blueblockers LOL

You can think what you like though...

Feel free to give Costa or Smith a call and ask for yourself...

For example, a brown Chromapop glass lens by Smith, there is no difference in the way you see through this lens whether it has the green mirror finish or not, purely cosmetic. The technology is all in the lens that controls colors, etc... not the outer coating.

My SIL worked for MJ, and can confirm: lens mirror has no impact and is purely cosmetic.

So Smith and Costa have figured out a way to alter the very nature of electro magnetic radiation? If so they should get out of sunglasses and get into defense contracting.

A blue mirror reflects blue light. This is incredibly simple.

The reflective blue definitely affect the bandwidth of light going through the lense.

You can see the result by the reflective mirror.

Certainly the lens color beneath the mirror also has an impact, but there is simply no way that the blue mirror is purely cosmetic. It’s basic science.

I've had these conversations with the product managers at Wiley-X, Costa, and Hobie Glasses.

They all said mirror color is only cosmetic - nothing more.  It's unanimous.

Let's move on.

I have Costa Green mirror (amber) but now prefer Maui Jim's Rose colored lenses.  As good as amber is rose is similar but an improvement in varied conditions.   The world really does look better through rose colored lenses.  It is very high contrast, so much so skiers use rose to avoid branche and look for slight changes in snow as they speed down mountain slopes.  Versatile enough to use on sunny days in Caribbean or some foggy mountain trout stream.

I'ma be honest, sunglasses are so easy to lose that I just buy the $5 pair at Walmart and use those.  Someone was trying to flirt with me one time by asking what brand my shades were because "they looked expensive".  I kinda chuckled and watched their face fall when I said Ozark Trail.  The pair I currently have are a non-mirrored blue, and they work just fine.

I'm kinda similar - but since I wear tri-focal prescriptions, I have to work with something I can wear over those. Originally it was just flip-ups that cost me $20 for a set of 4 (gray, green, amber, brown) which worked fine for a couple years. Then I got onto these inexpensive over-the-glasses ones. $15 a pair, but definitely affordable, and better than many as they have side-shields as well. Pair of gray for driving, and green and amber for fishing...and they're not bad looking either.

I wear an amber lense in low light or cloudy.

A Black lense covers most generally sunny conditions.

And the blue lense in the brightest sun with reflections off the surface.

Bass not always included.

I used to do that.  $10 cheapies off amazon or from a dept store every season.  By the fall they would be cracking and flaking and showing other signs of deterioration.  I'd buy another the following spring and the process would repeat itself.  That went on for about 15 years.

Then one December about 5 years ago my wife bought me some costa fantails (polycarbonate lenses).  I'm never going back to cheap shades again.  The difference in clarity, quality, and what you can see while on the water with improved sunglasses is a real eye opener.

I think their slogan is "see what's out there" and it sounds kinda cheesy but its an accurate statement.
