What are the advantages of getting one over the other ? Aren't they basically the same reel ? There seem to be quite the number of guys using the scorpion.

Only differeneces are the length of the handle (shorter in the Scorpion) and the 4x4 SVS Braking system in the Scorpion.  You can find GREAT deals on the Scorpion on ebay.

1.- If you are a fan of adjusting the braking with the Scorpion you don 't need to unscrew the sideplate, it can be done with the external adjustment.

2.- If saving $50 dollars or more and free shipping purchasing a Scorpion Mg isn 't an advantage I don 't know what else could it be.

As Raul said, you can get the 1000mg for a lot cheaper.  I like the longer handle on my mg50's, but I would have gone with the 1000 if they were available for $184 from Ginrinpeche like they are now.

The Metanium MG is equivalent to the old Chronarch Mg, both models are discontinued, the Metanium is a larger reel than the Scorpion Mg.
