wisconsin heat Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 First time it ever happened to me, brand new reel, about a half hour into using it, side plate comes off mid cast and plops down into the depth. 😭 6 Quote
crypt Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 that's bad.....but my buddy had his trailer stolen from the ramp area once. 3 Quote
OmegaDPW Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 I've told the story here before, but I was attacked by a donkey when fishing a farm pond once. I think I'd take a broken reel over that again. 😃 1 9 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Brother tells story of a friend and his Dad...they purchased new Lund Pro-V back in the day, loaded...(20 years ago). Boat had a roller trailer.... ...you can see where this is going.... Maiden voyage...they get to the ramp...unhook the boat.... And watch as it slides off the trailer on to the cement(!) Thankfully there were other fishermen around who helped them muscle the boat back on the trailer. Ouch!! 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 1, 2024 Super User Posted September 1, 2024 I was fishing from my old Town canoe several Falls back. I have a vertical rod holder for several rigs on the port side. One day while transiting to a new spot, I noticed that one of the spinning reel handles had vibrated loose. So I tightened it. Except I am a dyslexic spaz. I spun it the wrong way it fell off the reel and proceeded to find it's way to Davy Jones Locker. Sweet that it was a limited edition reel and the replacent doesn't match it. So everytime I use it I am reminded of my dorkness moment. 🤓 A-Jay 6 Quote
Brian11719 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 That sucks ☹️. If it were me I'd try ebay or facebook marketplace to see if I could find a cheap used one. Even if the reel itself isn't that great at least you could use it for parts and get this one working again... Quote
Super User Koz Posted September 2, 2024 Super User Posted September 2, 2024 Moments before a tournament started I had an electrical issue with my kayak. I pulled the battery for my fishfinder system and knocked it into 12 feet of 55 degree water. Quote

Alex from GA Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 30 miles out in the ocean and lose your prop. Had another with hardware to install it. 2 Quote
Vilas15 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Knocked our skeg clean off on a reef in canada 2 weeks ago. Insurance is paying for a new lower unit. Wish I lost a side plate instead! 3 Quote
BigAngus752 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 I've ordered just a sideplate before due to this. It happens. If everything went perfectly every trip what would we have to talk about? Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 That suck man, but things can be much worse...I was talking to a buddy who owns a tackle shop. I was telling him about how I had tripped on a submerged root that morning while duck hunting and went for a January swim. He told me about his father-in-law who had just had a custom sea duck boat built and new Chevy to pull it. The first hunt went well, until they got back to the ramp in Fortescue. He got the boat on the trailer and was pulling up the ramp and I guess the ramp had frozen at the high tide line. He felt it slip, but the truck being new he couldn't get in 4x4 low fast enough and the truck and boat trailer slid right into the bay. 1 Quote
