Flooded Waders Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Been fishing with Power Pro braided line for a few years now. Typically fish Eno river where water clarity can run from muddy to clear depending on time of year and the river level. Love the stength and sensitivity and haven't had any casting issues. I do wonder if I am spooking fish however with the moss green line. A buddy of mine suggested flourocarbon. Any thoughts on how the two types of line compare? Obvisouly the flourocarbon would be less visible but do I give up strength and sensitivity by switching? Will the difference in line cause a difference in the action on the fall with a lure like the Senko? Looking for some pro and cons and any thought on the matters. If this topic has been raised before I am sorry, I am new to the site. Take Care, Flooded Waders Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 First off welcome!!!!! I think these line are almost complete opposites of each other ..... if that's possible. Fluro is virtually invisible, braid is very visible. Fluro sinks, braid floats. (that will effect the action and fall rate of lures) Fluro generally has quite a bit of memory, braid has zero. Fluro has stretch (the amount is debatable), braid has virtually zero Fluro is weak compared to braid, but so is every other line They both are pretty pricey though. If you can experiment on one set-up with fluro, try it out. Nothing wrong with experimenting to see what you like. Some people swear by braid, some people swear by fluro. It's all about what you want out of a line. I personally think there is a place for each of them and use them both (have one set-up with each). Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 Welcome aboard! What KU_Bassmaster said... There is no "best" line, just "favorite." Quote
Bream Master Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I don't use flouro as a main line, way too much memory. Some do. Here's what I do: use braid with flouro leader. You get the best of two worlds. Quote

CyBasser Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Until last November, I would have also said what KU said. I prefer powerpro myself. But, after experiencing visibility problems in November (one of the reservoirs I usually fish suddenly turned clear) I have to agree with this: I don't use flouro as a main line, way too much memory. Some do. Here's what I do: use braid with flouro leader. You get the best of two worlds. Exception: If for any reason I need my lure to go down really fast, then I switch to fluoro throughout... Guest avid Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Personally I think the issue of line visibility is overrated. Unless you are gin clear water that is highly pressured your fish catching troulbles are probably not related to line visibility. Quote
justfishin Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 In my world I only use co-poly line. I am trying some Yozuri Soft on RW's recommendation but, as far as braid or flouro, I have used both and did not like either one. I am just old school though. Use what you feel the best about. Quote

I totally agree with Avid. I have been using braid in green moss, hi-vis yellow, hi-vis pink, and smoke without any trouble. The occasion I switched to using a fluoro leader was in a tournament, with a visibility of more than 15ft, post cold front conditions, and most contestants fishing the same general area. The only bites and fish I got that day were after tying a fluoro leader. I have used braid without leader in other clear water situations with no significant fishingh pressure and did not have any problems. Largemouth bass (at least) are definitely not line shy under normal conditions.... Quote
