duroc21172 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I just bought my first roll of P-Line CXX. I used it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I went again last week and it seemed to have a real problem with line memory. It seemed to get better as I used it for a while. So to the question is this commonwith this line? I liked it at first is there another line that is as good without the memory? I was using 17LB test. Thanks for any advice Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 25, 2007 Super User Posted January 25, 2007 It comes as no surprise what you are mentioning, which is completely normal with high resistant to abrassion line. CX, CXX, Trilene XT, Big Game; all those resistant to abrassion lines have a much larger diameter than limp lines, the higher the test the less user friendly they become. If 12 lb CXX is quite wiry I can imagine how wiry it should be 17 lb test, it must be one heck of a line for flipping. If you liked the line all you need is to reduce the diameter, I mainly fish with Big Game and 10-12 lbs is quite user friendly. I also have reels spooled with CXX 12 lb test and it 's pretty much like 12 lb Big Game. Quote
Super User flechero Posted January 25, 2007 Super User Posted January 25, 2007 What was the weather like when you used it? I use XT most of the year but in cold, cold weather it's like a metal slinky... Quote
castaway Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I found it to be the same as you mentioned, but the more I used it, the better it got. I bought the P-Line Evolution line.I like it better, it handles alot better, bought 12 lb test , fished a Chompers spider grub for smallies in 38 ft. of water, felt the bites really well, performed well with no trouble at all.The line color might be a problem as it is silver in color, if you were to use it to detect bites, it might be difficult to see in some conditions, but as a whole, its something I plan on buying more of for the next season. The_Natural Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 The 17lb is rough...I stick to 15lb and under unless I am truly flippin'. I use the 15lb for shallow cranks, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and traps. The difference in memory between the 15lb and 17lb is very noticeable, with the 15lb behaving much better. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 26, 2007 Super User Posted January 26, 2007 Welcome aboard! You guys are being sillly. P-Line CXX was my "go-to"ine until I discovered Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. You do NOT have to put up with memory to fish a line that is HIGHLY abrasion resistant. The original Hybrid or the Ultra Soft is comparable to Trilene XT when it comes to "tough." Quote

It just amounts to what your priorities are. Limper or 'softer' lines stretch more...and stretch is one of my #1 priorities. Hybrid ultra-soft isn't stretchy, but it definitely has more stretch than CXX or regular Hybrid. Quote
