Collect older bass fishing items . Team Diawa had it going on in the 90s. Some of the best who fished tournaments.

These reels are earlys 00s and they were elite at the time.  Finding that TDS on clearance at Dick's for $36 was one of my best finds.  While I retired the TDS, after years of heavy use, I still use the TDX.  I have another one but it's in the boat.  Those TDX reels still hold up and perform comparably to high-end reels of today.  They were way ahead of their time.

Been a Team Daiwa fanboy my whole fishing life, and I think it's stupid Daiwa did away with the "Team Daiwa" marketing.

My childhood was filled with saving or waiting on XMAS/B-day to get the latest TD model.

I'm currently still fishing with the Team Daiwa - X from pre 2000 on a daily basis.  Those old TD reels hold up well to the test of time.

You should check out the JDM TD-X.  As a 6.7 oz Magforce V reel it is still modern by today's standards.  Back then the Japanese market got the good stuff.

I have a TD Sol and TD Fuego. My first Diawa baitcasters. Both are great reels, light but strong! Fuego has Magnesium frame and the mag force Z brake. Still use them!

I kind of went down the rabbit hole on older Team Daiwa reels over the last year or so.

I started with the TDS103HVLA and TDZ 103 HL left handed reels with the pitching clutch on top, Then expanded out from there to TDZ 103H, TDX 105 H, TDZ 100ML and TDZ 103ML, as well as a Sol, and a number of TD Fuegos.

I have come to REALLY like those reels!!

Original post was about the people sponsored by Team Daiwa.

But I have to agree with this.  My first low profile was a TD Fuego in March 2009 when they were being closed out.  Have managed to collect a few of the above reels in the years since then.  I don't see the TD-Z 105H listed above.  A favorite reel of mine.

Did you mean TD-Z 105H instead of TDX 105 H?

@bowhunter63, what a great find. I remember the ad campaigns back then, Team Daiwa was a Who's who of bass fishing.

This thread makes me think us sickos who still use TDX reels should probably start a support group or something. I know I've lost count of how many I have.

the first 'high end' rod and reel I ever handled was my dad's Team Daiwa TD2Hi baitcasting reel with a pistol grip 6 foot Team Daiwa topwater/twitchin' rod by George Cochran back in the late 80s (probably 1989 or even 1990)

I was so envious of that combo lol

I think it was $150 US for the rod, and $150 US for the reel.

Agreed that the original post was about the old Team Daiwa fisherman. It just got me thinking of how much I like those reels.

And nope,... I have a TDX 105H. This isn't mine, but a pic I found online of obe like I have. I have mine on a light little TFO rod that I can throw small Mepps on.

TD-Z 105H was one of the reels I used to learn casting a #5 Shad Rap.

The JDM TD-X were precursors to the TD-Z or existed parallel to them as a budget offerings if I recall correctly.  A JDM TD-X righty is basically a TD-Z and the lefty is an aluminum frame verison of the lefty flipping frame TD-Zs that were around before the mirror lefties came out.  The JDM also got weird TD-S 105 reels too.  In the US the TD-S of this era was a stripped down USDM TD-X but because the JDM didn't get those reels they used a heavily reworked Procaster to give it a JDM TD-X/TD-Z like appearance but huge because it's a Procaster.  Even takes modern 34mm Daiwa spools too.

Man, brings back memories. I had several of the gen1 TD rods and still have a Topwater TD greenie rod along with a TD Light & Tough 6’6” rod.  Both get a workout from time to time.

All my friends were buying the TD2HI reels back then but I was buying the Chronarch 100 (pearl white) reels as I felt these were better built but I sure did get hammered by my friends.  Matter of fact, I still have a couple of them and they still function beautifully.

I believe the original TD2 and TD1 Hi reels predated the pearl white chronarchs by a number of years, at least in terms of release date.

My Dad's combo I'm pretty sure was purchased in 1989 and the pearl white Chronarchs were available in the late 90s, I had one that I bought in 1999.

But yes, they might have been available at the same time for sure.

Anyone know how long the TD Hi reels were produced? 10 years?
