Guest Texas_Bass_Pro Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 When would you use braided line over mono and vice versa? Do some of you use braid only or mono only or do yall mix it up some? I have never used braided line since spiderwire and that has been about 5 or 6 years ago. I need something tough but yet able to cast out 1/8th and up size lures. Is their a braided line out there that can do this? I only use Yo-Zuri right now but don't think that it will hold up aroud stumps, logs, and lay down trees. I have already got caught up a couple of times and the line broke fairly easy. Quote
wareagle Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Sufix makes a great braid with a smaller diameter than most. It also stays round which helps it come of the reel smooth. I use it on all of my casting set ups and sometimes I put it on my spinning reels if I think I need the strength. WAR Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 25, 2007 Super User Posted January 25, 2007 My preferances: Braid ONLY- flipping, frogs, c-rigs (with either mono or braid leader depending on a few factors) Mono ONLY-crankbaits,jerkbaits,topwaters for other applications, like spinner/buzzbaits,jig/worm, tubes, dropshot, shakey head, finesse, or weightless softplastics, I let the conditions dictate what line I'll be using. For light cover and or, clear water I go with a lo vis green mono, heavy cover and or, any time I don't feel line visability (to the bass) is an issue. I use braid on all of my casting gear, except my crankbait rods, and all my spinning rods have mono, with spare spools of braid for quick changes. Quote
Clayton Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I use mono only. I switched to braid a year ago and threw the stuff out. Power Pro wasnt all that it was craked up to be. But to be fair, I have heard that the sufix braid is good stuff. Quote
NEPAfishfinder Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I switched over from mono to Tuffline XP braid last year and i don't think i'll ever go back to using mono except for my light tackle trout and live bait setups. I like the fact i don't have line twists on my spinning reels with and i've become a lot smoother and precise with my baitcaster as well with it. Plus you can't beat the strength to diameter ratio of it, especially if you fish in a stumpy lake with a lot of cover like i do. It's deffinately saved me several $$'s in tackle that i would otherwise lose with mono. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 25, 2007 Super User Posted January 25, 2007 When would you use braided line over mono.. Except for finesse and ultra light fishing, all the time! JMHO Ronnie Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted January 25, 2007 Super User Posted January 25, 2007 Except for my two muskie rigs, I have no use for it. CHeers, GK Quote
