Looking to ease shoulder pain without using pharmaceutical drugs.  Right shoulder is the biggest offender.  Any suggestions?

BTW, it's not constant pain.  Fall asleep while leaning back in the easy chair with my right arm across my stomach or sleeping in bed on my left side is the biggest problem.  Especially if right hand isn't tucked next to my body.  Pain can be so severe that I can barely move my arm.  Luckily once I get up it doesn't take long for the pain to go away.

I'm not sure your definition of pharmaceutical drugs.   I don't have arthritis, but Voltaren gel does wonders for my shoulder.  (small labrum tear).   It's recommended labeled for arthritis, but Dr recommend it for my shoulder.   Follow the directions and don't over use it.  I can basically forget about my shoulder pain,  but if I don't use it for a couple days the pain comes back.  It also takes a couple days to work.  I use it twice a day, as recommend by my Dr.  The label says you can use it 4 times a day but twice a day works for me.

Non pharmaceutical drugs?

Pills....prescription or over the counter.  If you know of a herb in liquid form, I'd be willing to try that.  For example, I can control my high blood pressure with hawthorn liquid extract.  No side affects....unlike drugs.

Physical therapy. The arthritis in my knees used to be pretty bad. I started wading rivers. The low impact walking against the river current strengthened my legs and I haven’t been bothered by arthritis in my knees since

Shiatsu massage and staying aligned at the chiropractor helps mine.  Mine is rheumatoid though so not exactly the same most likely.

High quality Delta 8 THC derived from hemp. Doesn't have the psychoactive effects that you get from marijuana. I've had 3 shoulder surgeries and it helps on those bad days. I'll describe it as a super muscle relaxer. No side effects minus the dreaded cottonmouth and munchies.

I’ll second physical therapy. What you’re describing doesn’t sound like arthritis, it sounds like small muscle weakness/imbalance. A little PT and some yoga would probably fix you right up.

Woody:  Seems Voltaren contains diclofenac sodium (NSAID).  I'm on a blood thinner, so no Aspirin allowed.

Deephaven & VolFan:  Absolutely need to join a gym.  No massages with my oversize belly.  :(  I'd also be interested in a yoga class for oldies.  Need stretching and improved balance.

Shoulder has been X-rayed.  Doctor said arthritis in two places.  One spot is in the joint.  Other spot is in the vee on the front of the shoulder.

slonezp:  Already have munchies.  Don't need a worse case of them.

I'm assuming the arthritis in the front om my shoulder is the problem.  Lay on left side.  Move arm away from body.  Gravity causes shoulder to start hurting almost immediately.

Like the song Don’t let your babies grow up to be Cowboys for me should have been gymnast's. My bone joints especially shoulders are a mess from arthritis and DISH* disease.

Cannabis CBD cream helps the chronic pain without being a blood thinner.

Voltaren is now over the counter and helps .

If CBD cream isn’t legal where you live it can be purchased from Canada or Amazon.

Physical therapy works after the inflammation is resolved. Steroid shot is the fastest method followed by PT.

All creams can do is help chronic pain after the cause is treated.

Physical therapy would be a big help. I hurt my shoulder a little while ago and it was a big help in recovering the weakness I was having.

Real Time pain relief- a topical analgesic lotion. Works wonders, whole family has been using it for years.

Also focusing on posture.

You didn’t say if you’ve been to your dr, if arthritis hasn’t been diagnosed i’d suggest that. For my issues the doc sent me to physical therapy, shoulder pain while trying to sleep, and another time for neck pain also while trying to sleep. One was a pinched ligament or some such, the other was a pinched nerve., both cleared with therapy. I needed to get a referral, hence the trip to the dr., not that I knew what the issues were.

p.s., I have arthritis in my feet, not much I can do short of surgery to fuse the toe joints. A neighbor suggested THC laced salve you can get at a medical pot shop. As far fetched as it sounds it did seem to work, got to apply it 3 times a day, which isn’t easy to do. The pain went away after a month or 2. I stopped using it and the pain comes back and I start using it again.

no idea if all the salves you can get are just a bunch of crap. I was skeptical before I tried it and still am. I’ve tried a few and this one may have actually done something. Of course maybe it was just staying off my feet.

Thanks.  My s-i-l has been after me to join a gym.  I was hoping exercise would help rather than aggravate the condition.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.  Way worse than mine.  Get better.  :) In my 3rd post I mentioned the doctor (my family doctor) sent me for x-rays.  It is arthritis.  Have a little in my spine and both elbows, but they don't bother me very often.

Tylenol isn’t a good choice to relieve arthritis pain Advil is better over the counter med. you should consider getting professional advice and wear a knee support.
