worms4life Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I am looking to put some 30# braid on my Shimano Castaic. However I have a question. The braid is equal to 8# diameter and my reel is meant to operate the best with 10# - 12# diameter line. How does utilizing braid at a lower diameter then what your reel is rated for effect the performance of your outfit? Thanks Quote

How does utilizing braid at a lower diameter then what your reel is rated for effect the performance of your outfit? Thanks Those line ratings on reels are usually based on spool capacity. The slightly smaller diameter shouldn't affect the performance of your reel. Besides, different lines may have different diameters for the same pound test and you don't know what actual diameter the reel recommendations are, and you presumably don't know what the braid maker uses as 8# diameter. Make sure the line doesn't slip into the space at the ends of the spool. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 24, 2007 Super User Posted January 24, 2007 Try 50lb power pro, it's 12# diameter will work fine on your reel. You will have less line digging with the larger line. I use it on all but one of my Shimano baitcasters. It performs flawlessly. JMHO Ronnie Quote
