Well with our very first snowstorm of the year, I made my way to Bass Pro and Picked up some "needed" items. The baitmoney put a lashing on me.

I bought a 6'6"M BPS Extreme Baitcast Combo--$99. I have heard a lot about the Extreme rod but not much about the reels. Just wondering what you guys think of that combo?

Also, I bought a Rick Clunn 6'6" M with moderate tip for cranks--$59. I have never owned this rod before either, but it seem light and sensitive for the money.

Just wondering what you think of these items.

i bougth the spinnerbait rick clunn last year and really liked it especially for the money.  I went back and bought the entire line and used them all last year.  I really love the feel, they are fairly light and very durable.  I totally recommend these.

I bought the 7' worm/dropshot model Rick Clunn rod last year. In my opinion it is a lousy worm rod. The tip is too soft. But, it is a great crankbait rod, for the price. They are on sale several times a year. At the sale price of $60, the one I have is a lot of bang for the buck, for crankin, anyway. I like the rounded EVA buttcap, too. Haven't tried any of the others in the line, so I can't comment on them.

Cheers,

GK

I'm using an Extreme ETX05 on my jerk bait rod this year. Nice feel to the reel, sorta finesse like. Looking forward to using it and some Pro Qualifiers I bought. I haven't used a BPS reel in years so this is a major experimentation for me.

hey skeeter glad to see ya here!

I have a extreme reel that I got for X mas and love it.  It is very smooth, and they feel great in your hands.  I also got the extreme rod with it and love that also for spinnerbaits, crankbaits and buzzbaits.

The Rick Clunn combo at $149 is looking very attractive to me, I think I might like the 7'H for carolina rigs.

ww2 - if you like the extreme reels (saw you have some in another topic)  they are on sale now at BPS online for $49 Clunn rods are also on sale for $59 ..so you could save a couple bucks going that route, unless the clunn reel is alot better?
