I think you're probably losing casting distance with that small amount of line. 2 hours ago, C.Rig21 said: I seem to wind knots at least once or twice in a 5 hour session. That's pretty bad. I'd say I might see one every 30 hours or so, and I think that's high. If you'd share all your details, someone here might be able to figure out why you are getting so many. Obviously everybody here thinks they know the answer, but some of them actually do 😆 Details would be like: rod (length, power, action, guide size), reel, type of line, line weight, (same for leader) leader knot, weight of bait you typically have problems with, casting distance, how old is the line, do you ever untwist and how. If there's a specific situation where it seems to happen more often. Anything else you can add. 2 1 Quote

It could be a good idea to let about half of the spooled line drag, weightless, behind the boat once the wind knots begin. 8 minutes ago, Tackleholic said: It could be a good idea to let about half of the spooled line drag, weightless, behind the boat once the wind knots begin. Just noticed Tennessee Boy said it first; we're on the same page. 1 1 Quote

I don't have a boat myself, so that's not an option for me, I don't know about the OP. I've found the methods recommended for untwisting your line on land to be unsuccessful. In my opinion, they really only untwist the last 10-20 feet of line. 1 Quote

I have adjusted the appropriate amount of washers on the spool shaft. My line is about 1/8" from spool edge. I could go down to about 1/4" to see if that helps. I seem to wind knots at least once or twice in a 5 hour session. I will spend about 10 minutes picking it out. If unsuccessful I change rods. I have about 7 feet of leader, the connection knot (crazy Alberto) just above the spool. Thanks the culprit I'm sure. Thank you very much for information. You'll have to let me know if it fixes the issue. I generally spool mine to about 1/16 of an inch from the edge, much deeper than that and you lose some casting distance. Contact with the lip creates friction which shortens your casts. So there is usually a sweet spot. The v-shape line lay helps with that, you can get closer to the edge without being as prone to wind knots. I've never really had line twist affect me in any noticeable way, I know it's an issue sometimes but I've never run into it 1 Quote
