Rev Ron Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 I have trusted Sunline Super Sniper for several years. Lately I have ran into a couple performance issues so I am now open to other options. Line size 12-17 lbs. baitcasting. Memory, knot strength, abrasion issues multiple spools. Store the line the same way. Boat garaged. Treat with KVD line supplement. Swore by this stuff, but this year nope. Line has let me down more than a couple times. Thoughts please. Ron Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted August 17, 2024 Super User Posted August 17, 2024 Agree ^^ If you're not going to use Sunline, Seaguar (InvizX and Tatsu) is my recommendation, too. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 17, 2024 Super User Posted August 17, 2024 Spell Fluorocarbon line “rattlesnake” it bites you without warning when not listening. mover the past 30 years I have tried every premium FC available. Started with Sunline Shooter early 90’s, excellent FC lie but price increased. Tried Torsy in several types great line but priced increased and availability decreased. Seaguar Toray FC is good lie but pricey. My opinion with FC is buy the best and change it often. FC time on the water is limited. Tom 2 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted August 17, 2024 Super User Posted August 17, 2024 Agree with Tom, FC collects memory quickly, when slight damage happens, it's not slight its major. I use small top shots and it gets changed out often. If I start feeling irregularities on a spool (it's not smooth anymore) it's trash. I don't care how much is on the spool it's garbage. You want to fish it at your own risk, disaster is waiting for you. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 I've been fishing flouo's of various brands for the last 12 years or so. I personally have never experienced the evil's that some speak of. I do however remember the 1 fish that I broke off with it. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 17, 2024 Global Moderator Posted August 17, 2024 I’ve been using Sunline’s flouro (Sniper and Shooter exclusively) since 2010 and can honestly say I have never had a break off that can be directly attributed to line. And have not experienced the horror stories that are frequently expressed here. Mike Quote

I thought it was about 2000- that's when Stren and Trilene released their first version. Quote
Susky River Rat Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 I have shimano mastiff on my drop shot rod. Everything else I use braid for. I do think it’s pretty good stuff. I used sunline sniper before this. Quote
flatcreek Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Sunline was around in early 90’s. It was mainly used as leader material but then it became a mainline Quote
Super User king fisher Posted August 17, 2024 Super User Posted August 17, 2024 I have been on and off of the floro wagon, more times than a rock star is in and out of rehab. I am currently using Sniper, but like InviseX as well. My problem is professional over runs. It isn't the lines fault. I am constantly trying to get that last foot out of every cast. Throwing hard, and standing on the edge of the cliff with one foot over is a bad habit of mine. If any floro gets a kink in it while picking out a backlash bad luck is sure to follow. 2 Quote
Subaqua Adinterim Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Here's something else to consider. For a spinning setup try braid as your mainline - take your pick of brands; there's many good ones to choose from. I use 15# or something in that range. You know the advantages - smaller diameter, no memory = longer casting and less issues vs. floro mainline. Next step- tie on a quality #8 barrel swivel. Then tie your floro leader, use approx. three to four feet or so. You can use 15# as recommended above or some other brand - trilene, yo zuri, or whatever else you like. Just buy a filler spool 150 - 200 yards of regular floro line, no need for specialized/expensive leader product. If necessary, you can cut off and retie the end near the lure a few times before you put on another 3-4 foot piece of leader. One other thing to add. Cut about 1/8 inch or so of anti tangle sleeve (using a whole sleeve is a carp rig thing, but a small piece is useful here). Take this and put it on your braid line above the barrel swivel before you tie the braid on with a palomar knot or whatever you use. Then slide the piece of anti tangle sleeve over the top of the barrel swivel to protect the tip top of your rod. You can get a pack of these sleeves from ali express or Amazon or wherever you choose. I have been doing this for years after I got sick of tying Alberto leader knots and dealing with the aggravation associated with that and using many extra feet of leader line. I tie good knots with the barrel swivel technique and it works for me, as I catch hundreds of bass each year ( I don't post pictures anymore; as it is, I barely post at all). Just thought I'd provide another option, which you may want to try. Good luck. Quote
Brian11719 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 If money doesn't matter this one is my personal favorite: Alternatively, if you are on more of a budget I also like this one: Gave both of these a try after watching this post from BassFishingHQ and there's some other ones in there that he goes over in case you are interested or it helps at all. Zcoker Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I hate it. Broke off too many times, some on the cast, some on fish, other times who knows why! If the knots are not spot on, it will break. It will also break on the cast if it gets kinked anywhere on the spool. I've said bye bye many times to my lure along with yards of line. It has no place in the Florida eveglades, imho. Maybe in other places but not on any of my reels down my way. Strait braid is my cup of tea. Quote
