Ok, I should preface by saying that I typically use Diawa products and have come to love them. I’ve matched reels and rods up and like my rigs. I do however have a Lews TP-1 rod which one of my sons has used with a cheap combo-sourced Diawa reel for the past year. I really like the rod for neds and free rigs and would finally like to get a Lew’s reel to match it.

I have come to love Diawa’s fuego models for price to quality ratio(very high!) and wonder what you all would suggest from Lews that is comparable. Should I just slap a fuego on it and forget about my need to match things up?

fyi I’d be looking for something that comes in a 1000 or 1500, 2000 max.
Would like to stay under the high end tier if possible.

If you want to fish light weights, I recommend mag-brake Lew's over centrifugal.

I've had Super Duty G, Team Pro SP and Tournament Pro side-by-side on the casting range.

Mag-brake Super Duty G casts 1/8 oz 20% farther than the centrifugal-brake reels.

If you want to fish light line on the deep spool, back the spool a little over half-way with 20-25 yds 20-25-lb Nylon Mono, with your lighter working line on top.

I paid $127 for my first Super Duty G on ebay, and then bought a second at $141 when Lew's closed this model out.

Not a bad idea, but if you have the bug for something new then look at this: Daiwa Exceler LT Spinning Reels | Tackle Warehouse Zaion body, anti reverse switch, screw in handle. Pretty much on par with the recently discontinued Tatula LT which is a fine reel. If you're on the TW mailing list, click on the offer for 20% off which ends in a few days.

Aside from logos and maybe colors, there’s really no “match” of rods to reels. If you have a reason or just desire to try something new, browse Lews models and see what you find interesting. Otherwise don’t fix what ain’t broke and just put what you already like on it.

I checked this out and unfortunately most reels don’t qualify for that discount - but! - I appreciate the heads up about it.

I appreciate this feedback. When I think about my question more I arrive at this place.

Mac crush is a great reel. I’ve had one for about 4 years, no issues.

Thanks! Going to give them a look.

Call them before you give up.

Are you fishing for compliments or fish?

The Lews may match better but i seriously doubt it will perform as well as the Fuego LT.

I’m not afraid to admit that I like my gear a certain way 😄 I’m a designer by trade  and can’t unsee certain details…for better or worse.

That said, I’ve checked out a couple lews reels in person and think I’m going to hold off for now. I will more likely than not keep the tp-1 for my kids and seek out a ml Daiwa rod to start.

Assuming this is the blacked out lews TP1 rod and matching means the reel and rod match color wise then my recommendation would be to track down a Tatula LT or if you want to try something cheaper then the Piscifun Carbon X.  No experience with either since I don't use egg beaters but the Tatula is a solid product and the cheap Piscifun reel has pretty good following too.

They don't make them anymore but Ive got a Lews Team Gold, Lews Pro Z , Lews Super Duty , Lews Super Duty Wide, Lews BB2 HZ , Lews Mach Crush. They don't make the Team Gold or Pro Z no more, but aside from the high end reels look at the Super Duty or a little more money the BB1 Pro. But its you and your money get what you can afford look at 13 fishing also

and Daiwa
