Alex from GA Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 Started off with a good bite on a worm and, due to my shoulder, I didn't set the hook hard enough and it came unbuttoned. After a long while with no bites my trolling motor quit working and after trying to troubleshoot that, the prop, nut and pin were missing, I went back to my dock and put my spare prop on. In the mean time I took the switch out of the pedal because it's usually the reason the trolling motor doesn't work. After a while I got it back and went out trying to get rid of the skunk, which I haven't had for several years. I got another bite and it jumped off and after going around my cove I finally landed a fish which turned out to be a small channel catfish. It was afternoon by then and I said to myself, self I'm going home. After all that exercise trying to put the pedal together I could hardly get out of bed this morning. After 80 even easy things are harder to do. 3 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted August 15, 2024 Super User Posted August 15, 2024 Let that shoulder heal up and you'll be getting us more pics soon. Might want to try a pack of the Gamakatsu Nano hooks, apparently you can think about setting the hook and you'll have them pinned. Quote
Bazoo Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 Sorry to hear about your issues. Sounds like a frustrating day. I don't consider losing 2 as getting skunked - half skunked maybe. Certainly a whole lot better than no bites at all. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 15, 2024 Global Moderator Posted August 15, 2024 Haven’t had a skunk for several years??? You doing alright 😂 1 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted August 15, 2024 Super User Posted August 15, 2024 Skunked.. I got skunked good today. First drove a little over a hour to the lake and the ramps were closed. Drove a little further to another lake and they were closed. Parked and walked down to the water. Trees and logs floating everywhere from the storms. Then drove 2 hours the opposite direction and good news the ramps were open. While putting the boat in the wife walks down the ramp and slips in the snot like algae and slides into around 2 feet of water. Like a good husband as soon as I see she’s not hurt I begin to laugh my butt off. Needless to say we didn’t fish and all the way home every time I looked at her I started laughing. I’ll sleep with one eye open tonite. She’s a good sport and she’s laughing too. 7 Quote

No prop, nut, or pin either! The fact that you had a spare prop tells me this was not your first rodeo! 3 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 18, 2024 Super User Posted August 18, 2024 Given how I feel at nearly 68, I HOPE I'm still fishing at 80 like Alexander the Great, but I don't know. Quote
Alex from GA Posted August 18, 2024 Author Posted August 18, 2024 I was kayak fishing all summer up to last year. I'll be 84 in Oct. 8 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 18, 2024 Super User Posted August 18, 2024 84? Whoa. And still kayaking at 83. You are great, Alex. 1 Quote
Alex from GA Posted August 18, 2024 Author Posted August 18, 2024 It's amazing how your health can go downhill so fast. Thanks Katy I was. A friend is taking me to catch some different species of black bass next week for the GA Bass Slam. He knows walk-in places. 2 Quote

You will Katie. Anyone that can carry their canoe through ink black woods before daylight will be fishing way into their 80's. You may not get to the water as fast as you used to, but you will get there just the same! 1 Quote
