Crabco Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Just bought the Revo 5 sx. Dialed it in and can cast pretty good with it. No back lash is what I’m referring to. I can’t seem to get too much distance out of it. I feel like it should cast way farther than it is. I have adjusted the spool tension and brakes as loose as they can go without creating too much back lash. Is this normal? Are these reels know to need oiling out of the box? I picked up a carbon lite 2.0 barely used for $60 and it cast way farther with the same effort. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted August 9, 2024 Super User Posted August 9, 2024 The only thing I'll do to my reels is change spools. Leave cleaning and upgrading to the professionals. It's possible that your reel is packed with grease. A good cleaning with proper lubrication should help. Alternatively...use the heck out of it. Should loosen up with usage as long as there isn't a mechanical problem. 1 Quote
Bigbox99 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Ser the spool tension to just eliminate side to side play and adjust the brakes to your liking. Also, what are the centrifugal brake settings on the bps reel? Quote
bartnc37 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 If it’s like the sx4, there is a centrifugal brake set sunder the side plate, set it so only 1 or 2 are “on”, which I think is to the outside , and give it a try. I had the same problem Quote
Crabco Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 Bart, the gen 5 does have centrifugal breaks but they are not selectable. They are all free floating and fly out all at once. Unless my reel is missing a piece to lock the breaks down. I know it sounds a little nuts but this generation reel may not have adjustable internal brakes. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Quote
bartnc37 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Are they the ones with the little red tabs in a circle around the mechanism? I know on my 4 they didn’t move very far between being on or off. It was night and day when I got mine set , I run them with only one on anymore Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted August 9, 2024 Super User Posted August 9, 2024 The Revo SX gen 5 has the IVCB 6 system, not the infini system with the red pins. IVCB6 was in the Gen 4 STX and is a good system overall (better than infini). In the Gen 4 STX you could push the 'wheels' down and there was a small plastic clip that a tiny molding on the wheel holder would clip in to. In the latest iteration they have done away with that and you cannot clip them in anymore. You can only adjust on the external dial. I think that's a downgrade, but still better than infini (which is a pretty decent system anyway). The IVCB4 that was in the MGX series was also non selectable and I have to crank the external up to max for any braking. With 6 brakes instead of 4, I would assume the new setup is better. Certainly if I turned 'on' all 6 in my STX it has a lot of braking. 1 1 Quote
