Alex from GA Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Didn't hurt too bad this morning so I tried it again. Water temp 86* @ 7am. Threw a white walking bait and caught 1 then fished for 2 hours without a bite. Finally caught another good Alabama on a worm and went home. Had to cast left handed but they mostly landed in the water. 12 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 8, 2024 Super User Posted August 8, 2024 I love the anglers fishing the ends of the spectrum, i.e. @Pat Brown's Jake, @Bazoo's boy, and all the old farts like Alex, @WRB, me, and many, many more. 3 1 Quote
Alex from GA Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 I was going to say "old guys rule" but that's no longer true. Younger people have much more information sooner than we had. I've only been seriously bass fishing for 25 years since I moved to GA from So. CA. I mostly fished in the Pacific in So Cal mostly and Baja a couple times a year. I used Loran and an RDF to find out where I was and now I have an electronic chart with over 1000 brush piles and humps marked for the lake I mostly fish. Younger people grew up with those advantages and use them. Don't get me started on youtube. 4 Quote

Well, yeah, but if you put a couple young anglers in a barebones canoe on a Maine pond or bog or a backcountry lake in Northwestern Ontario and pitted them against me, it wouldn't be prudent to bet against the old gal. 2 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 9, 2024 Super User Posted August 9, 2024 Nice fishing @Alex from GA! @ol'crickety I am the youngest active member on here that I know of. BR does not really attract the younger demographic. 1 Quote

Seriously, are the young anglers on Instagram? Or some newer, hipper social media outlet that I don't even know? 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 9, 2024 Super User Posted August 9, 2024 @ol'crickety nah I just don't think many 18yr olds are inclined to browse forums to learn about bass fishing. They'd rather digest their information from video sources. 1 1 Quote

Instagram and TikTok are the biggies now....and I refuse to have anything to do with either of them - I even keep my Facebook toned down and reject 99%+ of friend requests. 1 1 Quote

Hey, if you accept my Instagram friend request, you'll get to see all my meals! What a deal, huh??? 1 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 10, 2024 Super User Posted August 10, 2024 I don't think age has anything to do with it. I think it is more about how you process what you are learning while out on the water. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted August 10, 2024 Super User Posted August 10, 2024 Yea well there are a lot of us older even OG BASS anglers that still fish a good bit more.. it’s just some of us don’t post pics of everything we catch. If it’s not 7 or bigger I’m not photographing anything 🤣🤣🤣 Those who choose to do so, well bravo. I'm certain me and Catt agree on this exact point 😂🤣😂. I’m sure there are others but at any rate. Click away haha.. Three weeks ago my son and I got into some small River smallmouth, we caught a bakers dozen around 2 1/2 pounds and we had a very competitive day lol. We have both lost phones in the drink. 💯 On 8/9/2024 at 11:37 AM, Alex from GA said: I was going to say "old guys rule" but that's no longer true. As far as technology goes, but after so many years of fishing, somethings never change.. young people are living and dying by the technology and I say, so be it. 2 Quote

He put on a frog clinic Saturday morning - I ended up watching his technique/cadence and having him give me tips, because the way he was working his frog blew me out of the water on numbers. Still young enough that I had to unhook most of fish though. lol 2 2 Quote
