Super User casts_by_fly Posted August 6, 2024 Super User Posted August 6, 2024 "Propeller- Optional" Why couldn't honda put that 5L V8 engine into a car though? Put that into a honda pilot and you've got something. I guess the skeg would drag the ground. 2 1 Quote

The original Honda 115hp & 130hp 4 strokes were converted Honda car engines from the Civic & the Accord as I remember. 2 Quote

I hate to be serious, but they wouldn't be able to get one of their transmissions to live behind a 5L V8. 1 Quote

I can't speak to the quality of all hondas or what their transmissions can or can't take. However, the pilot with the 3.5L is is a fantasticly reliable thing. They have used basically the same engine for at least 20 years now (I had a 2004, my buddy had a 2012 and my brother in law had a 2017) and its the only option they offer in the pilot (and ridgeline) last I checked. As a family vehicle and a getting around town car it's great. It lists at 285HP now. That's really nice and on the highway mine woud do 24 mph all day (back in 2006 with a 6 speed transmission). I can't imagine what they are doing in real life now, but 30+ has to be on the cards with the 10 speed. A little more low end torque from a V8 would be fantastic in it (alternatively an electric assist would do it). 10 hours ago, throttleplate said: Especially since they use CVT trannies. The pilot is not CVT, its a traditional transmission. Quote
throttleplate Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 The mileage of my trip to Green Bay Wisc, down to Oshkosh then Milwaukee onto La Crosse Wisc , Minneaplois Mn and back to Fargo Nd which included in town driving checking out sites totaled 1419 miles. I left fargo with a full tank and refilled to full when arriving back into fargo. My 2004 Honda civic coupe LX with 153,000 miles, 1.7 litre 4 cyl, 117hp naturally aspirated engine with automatic 4 speed with no mods averaged 39.4 mpg, best was 42 mpg on a straight highway run. Car was loaded down with 170 lbs of gear. I aired up my tires cold to 33psi, recommended is 30psi and ran the air con, engine burnt no oil. Quote
