Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 5, 2024 Super User Posted August 5, 2024 So, the guys were working in the woods again yesterday. They milled some oak to put an easy-walkin' sidewalk atop my boardwalk and dock. The guy who watches my property likes the upgrade so much that he's going to expand the dock. Yeah, I'm a lucky, ol' gal. I went fishing too, launching at six because I'm puppy-tuckered. Once again, I was fishing bluebird skies, which I do not like. However, the bass were hitting...somewhat. I started in the weeds. Then I caught one in the middle. As always, the pond was strutting her stuff. She's soooo weedy just now. The bass kept coming from those weeds. Then I hooked a bigger open water bass. Right before I landed her, I lost a big one to a laydown. I was ten yards from the laydown, but she pulled my canoe atop it and then pulled free. They are so strong. Another nice open water bass. Back to the weeds. Last bass! Two hours of fun fishing five minutes from my home. Life is good. 18 1 Quote

Pat, I kid you not: I have never thrown a frog at my pond. In three years. Never. Not once. Yeah, I'm cuckoo. Next time. You'll see. I did throw my first spybait, but couldn't trigger a strike. I caught them all on an underspin and spinnerbait. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 5, 2024 Global Moderator Posted August 5, 2024 @ol'crickety Sorry about the above incomplete post. I was gonna write something positive about yours but after printing the first word my fat thumb hit the “Send” button trying to navigate around. It was sent in error 😠 Mike 1 2 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 5, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2024 It's all good, Mike, but thanks for explaining. 1 Quote
Blue Raider Bob Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 Katie, is there a place for a fish feeder? That would be so awesome to have at the end of the boardwalk. fish become conditioned quickly and you could have multi species calling your place home. Nothing like feeding time. I'll trade you a fish feeder for a canoe full of lily pads. 1 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 5, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2024 Deal, Bob! Although, the canoe is yours to use whenever you want with a fish feeder in exchange. Quote
Blue Raider Bob Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 What is really over-the-top cool is the narrow streamlet that your canoe glides into to dock at the boardwalk. Might need a post and handrail at some point as we age. I know my butt would bust a some point! 🤣 1 Quote
Functional Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 @Pat Brown I was thinking the same thing when I saw all of those weeds/pads. If not a hollow body at least a horny toad turning up the surface. Hell @ol'crickety if you dont have a frog I may have to send you one just so I can have peace of mind it was fished with a frog 😂 1 1 Quote
pdxfisher Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 That looks like an awesome path down to the water! Great pics once again!! 1 1 Quote
fin Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Those lily pads scream Stanley Ribbit toad to me. Our lily pads died off in a drought and never came back 🙁 A frog is good too, but I loved fishing these things. 3 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 6, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2024 I'll be froggin' next time, guys. Promise. I fished a different pond today. 1 Quote
HawkeyeSmallie Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I'm new here. That's a POND????????????? Looks like a small lake to me! How big is it? What's the history of it? Looks amazing. THanks! 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 8, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2024 @HawkeyeSmallie: In New England, a body of water generally has to be more than a thousand acres to be called a lake. It's 170 acres, not counting the marsh and I spend a lot of time in the marsh. It's mid-coast Maine, five minutes from the coast. It's natural and yeah, I love it. 1 Quote

So you don't own it I'm assuming? Here in Iowa, a "pond" is much smaller and privately owned. 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted August 8, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2024 I own five acres of its shoreline. There are ten other shoreline owners and no public access, so it doesn't get fished much. In Maine, you can't own a body of water exceeding ten acres. FWIW, I'm a canoe angler who generally fishes shallow, weedy ponds and bogs. I'm sneaky in my stealthy canoe and get quite close to bass, sometimes even bumping into them with the bow of my canoe. I catch a lot of bass, as the BR guys will attest, but for the last week or two, the bass have been beating me. I'm fishing my pond tomorrow morning. I'll start with a frog and fluke. It'll be raining pretty hard, but I like rainy fishing. 4 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 9 Author Super User Posted January 9 I drove to my pond today to make sure everything is okay. The driveway and path are littered with fallen branches, but the branches are all frozen to the ground. The boardwalk looks fine. So does my canoe. The pond looks like the Arctic, with snow blowing (15-40 mph wind) over thick ice. At least my dog was happy, bounding through the woods. 5 Quote
