Jerkbaits other than megabass

with all the new jerkbaits out and hadnt seen a recent post about other alternatives. what is out there that everybody is using besides megabass, i just cant think of losing a 25$ bait. I lost a stunna the other day and that was bad enough.

I use Stunnas, Shad Rap Shad, and a few Shimano Zumverno flash...  

 

I do enjoy a much wider (and more expensive) variety of jerk baits now that I don't fish Minnesota/pike waters. There, you are just feeding the toothy critters... very few jerk baits last more than a couple hours, a full day is a rarity. I used to just buy the cheapest Berkley Cutters or Husky jerks on sale knowing they won't be around very long...  but they still work!

Stunna/Lucky Craft Pointer/Berkley Hit Stick/Rapala all various ones they make - all good to be honest/Jackal Rerange/6th Sense jerks are good/Strike King makes good ones etc

 

They all seem to catch me fish when they're on a jerkbait bite.  Doing stuff to make them sink or suspend and getting the right color and size and hooks and line and rod then dialing in the retrieve they want and where they are seem more critical than the brand.

If you keep your eye open to the JDM sites you don't have to pay $25 for a Megabass 110. Also, the 110 Jr +1 the past few years has been better for me.  They run $20 at the regular price. 

 

For an alternative, I like the Lucky Craft Pointer. With the Megabass 110 and the Pointer, they are sort of a one two punch when it comes to jerkbaits. If one isn't getting bit, the other one will. 

 

Another I like is the Ninshine Erie 115 MD. It has a weight attached to it that can help with getting it to suspend or sink depending on the water temp.  One more... The OSP Veruna 110 SP.  I fish this one fast with small quick pops. It's almost like a straight retrieve but not quite. It tends to roll and flash. It gives off a totally different look than other jerkbaits.

Pointer and Duo here. I used to catch bigs on an X-rap Shad in the Perch pattern; might have to pick that back up.

I don't even own any Megabass lures.

Rapala, Berkley, Yo-Zuri, Smithwicks are how I roll.

Rerange, stunnas, world divers, pointers have all worked for me, but I've resigned myself to just lean on 110+1 jr and the nishine MD and the money they cost.  The nishine has great action with a short, light, tieable wireleader that wards off the pike by catches so I havent lost any in years, but I haven't found a way to make the 110+1 jr's work this way yet.

Don't sleep on Academy's H2OX Ultimate Jerk Shad! For $5.99 they have shockingly good action. The Crackle color in particular has landed me quite a few plus sized bass. I do swap out the split rings and hooks on all of mine, but the bait is solid.

I bought a rod just for hard jerkbaits (and sometimes squarebills or poppers) and ironically the Lucky Craft Pointer Minnow 100mm is the only one I use...but I use it pretty often.

Strike King KVD 300 Jerkbait and the Strike King KVD 300 Deep Jerkbait

have both been very good for me.

The Strike King KVD Elite 300 Jerkbait offers more color options and upgraded hardware.

It’s been my experience @buckmaster27012 that a Lucky Craft Pointer and Staycee , a 6th Sense Provoke and the Jackall Squad Minnow (if you can find them) work well if you’re tired of catching ‘em on a Vision 110.

I know this is a list of other jerk baits besides Megabass - but I will say the 110 jr. +1 is still a favorite although only $5.00 less than the regular size. I sure liked it up North in the cold water period… but it works in 90 degree water here in Florida too. I bought several during 20% off sale and worth every penny.

Super shallow or over weeds...  LC Flash Minnow 

Aggressive movement...  Rerange, pointer 100, Duo Realis 

Subtle...  the shimano jerkbaits

When I first started using jerkbaits years ago I used lucky craft, strike king, and rapala because they all costed less than Megabass.

 

Eventually I succumbed to the cost of a MB jerkbait. It was worth it. It works better than the others because it is better. I’ve slowly accumulated a small collection of them and it’s pretty much all I use now.

Domestic jerk baits Smithwick Rogues, Rapala HJ , KVD 300 & Berkley Stunna. JDM jerkbaits priced at TW Jackall Rerange 110 MR $18.99, Duo Realis 120SP $14.99, LC Lightning pointer $9.99, LC pointer 100 $15.99 and a real sleeper Ima Flit 120 $10.99. I like Vision 110's especially the color choices but I fish a lot of different jerk baits for both smallies & largemouth & have come to the conclusion that they are not that special, more hype than substance considering the price. I own more than a dozen of them but they are never the first bait I reach for. Just one man's opinion.

LC Pointer has been the best jerkbait for me 20 years now. Another great bat nobody has mentioned yet is a Team Daiwa Minnow 1092.

Daiwa TD Minnow hit US markets before Lucky Craft. 1st Japanese jerk bait I used and the hooks were scary sharpe compared to domestic lures. You had to unhook bass with the TD Minnow using needle nose pliers to avoid hooking yourself. TD Minnow is a slender shape suspending lure with weight transfer, excellent action and forgotten today.
