I probably have around 50 reels and and slightly less rods. I set up around 10-12 to fish based on my mood, where I'm fishing, and what I think I might need. I generally only take 5 or 6 in any trip. Think of it like a tool chest and a tool bag. You load the bag with what's most convenient for the day.

I work really hard to limit myself to 20 total setups in my garage... means I have to sell one when I buy one... which helps me buy fewer of them.

Same... except I usually end up with 7-8 in the boat.

3 spinning, 2 baitcasters. 1 for panfish/trout. 2 for musky. So 8 total. I haven't bought any in a while and think I'm set unless I break one.

Just gave approximately 5 old spinning combos to a niece for her and her children to use.  Gave 4 baitcast combos to a brother and his wife (to learn on).  Drug addict stole about 6 casting rods and broke the only spinning rod I had stored in Florida.

As of now

8 fly rods

9 spinning rods

around 77 casting rods

Have more casting reels than rods...about 100.  Collected over quite a few years.  (Worked full time and often had a part time job.)  Life got in the way over the past 5 years, but hoping now to get out more often.

I fish trout, bass, salmon and salt so my setups are all over the place.  I am guessing around 20 but I can honestly say that all see action during the year.  I do have a few “archived” setups that will never see action again but they stick around for nostalgia.

I think a fun follow up thread could be “How many setups do you actually use”.  I would wager that most hobbyists / enthusiasts find themselves with the same 1 or 2 rods in their hands every trip.

Reel mounted to rod 26. And I have 8 or 9 loose reels in the bottom of tackle bags to rotate in or off a rod. Had several more but I've given several reels away to coworkers that I know fish. Just told them fish em hard. Don't go easy on em.

What's a couple of your favorite reels you've collected?

Zillion 50th Anniversary, TD-Z 105H, Helios Air, Patriarch XT, Primmus HS Xi, TD Fuego, Purple Alphas, TD-Z ito 103M, Steez 100HLA, Exsence DC, Chronarch 100B to name a few.

Oh yeah...Limited Edition Tatula Type R.  Beautiful reel I've kept in its box. Can't forget the PXL Type R.  Have it on an Aetos 6'6" MLM.  Absolute delight to fish.

14 freshwater slightly more spinning than baitcasting , down to 4 saltwater rigs for the trips to GOM..

Posted

24 casting combos

8 spinning combos

4 casting rods w/out reels

I haven't fished a spinning rig in over a year, but hand them out to friends and family when they fish with me.  I also have my eye on a couple "casting gaps" that I feel like I should hold off on for now, but man it's hard.

19 rods and 14 reels. Of those, only two rods and one reel are spinning.

I just picked up a glass casting rod the other day and I have a casting reel on back order. Once that reel comes I’ll move some rods and reels around.

I like to experiment with different rod and reel combinations at least once a year.

Good Lord let me cypher this one, Hmmmmm🤔

For bass:

12 baitcasting

12 spin casting

For panfish:

6 spin casting

For salmon/steelhead:

9 spin casting

For catfish:

Three spin casting.

I had to actually go down stairs and do a setup count.

And I openly admit I am beginning to loath springtime reel maintenance as it takes at least 10-12 sessions to do it all.

I did add 5 new baitcasting setups dedicated for bass fishing this year.

To be clear, many of those setups (not including the salmon/steelhead) I bought for my sons to use whos love of fishing really took off now they can both drive and both have a vehicle.

Today it’s down to 2 bait casting combo’s and 3 spinning a total of 5 for back seating.

Man, I really don't know.  If the house burned down and the insurance company wanted to know, I wouldn't know.

But I CAN say I have way, way, WAY more in the garage than I have in the boat...and I have 26 combos in the boat!

So...an easy and conservative 100+

My wife keeps telling me I need to have a garage sale.  I agree.

I’m right about 25, but about 13-14 designated for bass fishing. I find that I manly stick with the higher end set ups, just because they are just nicer to use.
nothing wrong with budget set ups, they will get the job done. I’ve been replacing my cheaper set ups with nicer ones, and for me , about 10 baitcast set ups and 3-4 spinning take care of bass fishing. Use cheaper set ups for perch and panfish.

As a takeoff on the “how many rods, and what’s on them” thread, I’d be interested in knowing how many some of you own. I think I have 12, 4 of which are saltwater, oh ya, and 3 fly, so 15 total. And my wife busts my chops when I buy another. I get the feeling she figures 1 is all I should need.

Not an insane amount. 19 combos, a few baitcasters, spinning, and a spincast reel that aren't paired up with anything. The "starting lineup" is really only ~5 baitcasting and 1 spinning combo. The rest are either for inshore, offshore bottom fishing, or less often used techniques.

@Fishingmickey I'm with this guy !

While I rehomed much of my saltwater gear after the move up here to sweet water. I kept many rigs for nostalgic reason.

As for bass gear, isn't there some type of unwritten rule that a man should never actually count them.

If there ain't,  there sure otta be . .

Big picture, I've decided to switch out every split grip stick I have in favor of full cork, my true favorite.  I am about 35% into it and it's  going well. Some bassheads are going to get several smoking deals on quality rods this coming hard water season.

The obsession never stops.

Will definitely keep an eye out. Been looking to upgrade my chatterbait rod for a little while now to something a little more dialed in. Pretty happy with what I have but I think something with a softer tip without sacrificing backbone/ability to rip grass will be just right.

Not all bass specific;

18 baitcasting set ups

13 spinning set ups

9 trolling set ups

Probably a good dozen rods w/ no reel.  8-9 reels not on rods.

.....Ice fishing set ups, 3 dozen....

7. Since i fish from the bank, its pointless to own a bunch, and i usually sell them when/if i am tired of a certain setup.

I've been known to put 8 or so in the car even though I seldom use more than 2 once I'm there.  I also fish from the bank.  I don't sell anything.  Thus the excess amount I've collected over the years.

38 total including bass rods, salmon and stealhead, trout, fly fishing, trolling, and saltwater.

At the moment 13 rods and a few less reels. Probably only need 8 or 9 but I really like to try stuff out so I always seem to have a few extra and then sell them only to repeat the process again...

Wow. I thought I had a lot.  I probably have 16-18 rods, and 12 reels. I choose the rods I think would be best for the day and the reels needed. In addition, I have an Indiana Jones whip to keep the bait monkey in his place. He almost convinced me to buy a new shimano spinning reel this past weekend, but since I am out of the loop, I did not know enough about the Sahara, Nasci, and Miravel (or the Daiwas) to make a quality decision. The employee at Cabela's couldn't help me much, but I don't blame him and didn't expect him to know too much technical info. Then his analogy. These are the Fords, the Chevys, and the hot rods. It had me cracking up.
