Fisholder7 Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Hi all, Looking for a new spinning rod for topwater frogs and the Dobyn SA705 SF seems to be highly recommended. I've been using only Booyah poppin pad crasher Jr frogs which weigh 3/8 oz according to bass pro shops website. The recommended lure weights for the SA705SF is 3/8 - 1 1/4 so this would be at the lower end. Does anyone who has this rod know if I'll have difficulty casting such a relatively light frog? Unfortunately there are no dealers around me who sell Dobyn rods so I'll have to order online and won't get to hold the rod before purchase. Appreciate any advice. Quote
JackstrawIII Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 I don't have this particular rod, but I have many Dobyn's rods and they're all incredible. With that said, they tend to fish softer than their ratings. But, you're using pretty small frogs, so it would probably be a good match. Quote
Fishingmickey Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Hi Fisholder7, You should be fine especially with spinning gear. Load it up with 40# braid and it should cast a mile. I agree with Jackstraw, Doybns rods fish lighter then their rating. I don't have much experience with their spinning rods but both the Sierra and Kayden models that I fish are 1/2 to a full power lower then rated, IMHO. FM Quote
Str8BraidPowa Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 My buddy has this rod, he uses it to skip 1/2" jigs under docks. From messing with it a little my self I think it would be the best option I have seen for a spinning rod to throw frogs on. With some 40 lb braid I think it would send a 3/8" frog pretty good. Quote
