Super User Bankbeater Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 I came out this morning to go to work and saw this. Hit and run sometime between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. I didn't take a picture of it, but the right front wheel is straight. Got it hauled up to the body shop and they won't even be able to look at it for 2 to 3 weeks. 13 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 1, 2024 Global Moderator Posted August 1, 2024 Doggone , doesn’t even look like a busy street. That’s a long wait at the body shop 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Man that really stinks. I hate that people don’t own up to their mistakes. More than likely a drunk driver. 1 1 Quote

airshot Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 That is why I never park on streets, and a good reason to have a ring camera....no wonder they sell like hotcakes ! Sad part is, if the police caught them, the court would make some excuse to set them free with no penality. 1 1 Quote

I see almost wrecks on the interstate all the time going to and coming home from work with people texting/messing with their phones. 2 Quote
GRiver Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 @Bankbeater does anybody in the surrounding area have cameras, maybe your neighbors cameras got a photo of it. 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 @Woody B yeah, happens very often. I’m guilty of it to but, try my best to resist the temptation. 2 Quote
Super User Bird Posted August 5, 2024 Super User Posted August 5, 2024 Pretty good impact, that's unfortunate. The offenders vehicle had to sustain significant damage but fled to avoid a ticket......scumbag. Had it happen on new truck while on vacation and couldn't open the doors on the passenger side for a week, very inconvenient. 1 Quote

Sort of what the highway dept. does with those big trucks. Either on purpose or from not paying attention, but some of the drivers around here get pretty close to the curb. 11 hours ago, GRiver said: @Bankbeater does anybody in the surrounding area have cameras, maybe your neighbors cameras got a photo of it. We got footage from our next door neighbor. Older white sedan stopped right in front of their house after the accident. The driver got out looked back at my car, looked at their car, got back in and drove off. You can't see the plates from the angle though. 8 hours ago, Bird said: Pretty good impact, that's unfortunate. Also looks like the front end was banged up pretty good. Quote

Even if he was drinking and didn’t want a DUI, he has had time to come back. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 13, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 13, 2024 My insurance sent me the estimate that it received from the body shop. Close to $6300.00 damage. Left front suspension was completely destroyed. Wheel, tire, wheel cover, and left fender were ruined. The left front axle had to be replaced, and the front bumper needs replacing. Good news is they are able to get parts, and it should be ready by the middle of next week. Also, the frame and front rebar were not damaged. 4 Quote

Do Not Pass Go and do not collect $200. Good Luck A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 13, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 13, 2024 My grandpa worked on the assembly line at a GM plant. He always said that after a car has been in a bad accident it's never the same again. We'll see. 2 Quote

For $6,300 you have a bunch of new parts and presumably specs will be checked and realignments will be done. Grandpa probably also knows that when you trade in a car, the house always wins. Might be better off keeping the fixed rig than buying something new (which also comes with dealer fees, higher insurance premiums, higher excise tax if your state has it, etc.) - consider the whole enchilada (can we still say that?) To your point, "we'll see" - you have options. Once you get it back, you'll know if it's right or not. Sorry you had to go through it and hope it all ends as well as it can. 1 Quote

Bazoo Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Sorry to see it. If you were round here I would have offered you my spare car. I've loaned vehicles to several friends, and had the same done to me. Course... one of the friends blew my speakers and then said they shoulda been able to handle his tunes lol. That car is long gone now. Car is just a way to and from the gun store and the lake, so no worries. 2 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 22, 2024 Author Super User Posted August 22, 2024 After 3-1/2 weeks, she's finally back home. They had to replace everything on the left front side from the door to the bumper. 2 Quote

This is assuming any crush zones that were compromised got properly repaired. If you have any reservations about repairs being done properly have "Wreck Check" inspect you vehicle after it's repaired, if there's one around your location. 1 Quote
