Super User Mobasser Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 By this time of the summer, the heat and humidity have me feeling burned out. Now, I fish very early ( sunup) in the morning for around two hours, the last hour before darkness, and plan on night fishing this month. So, I'm ready for fall. Fall, like springtime, can be hit or miss. But, if you can be on the lake at the right time, it can be an excellent time to fish. Plus, the changing colors of the trees around the lakes make it even better. I say bring it on. Is anyone else ready for fall? 8 Quote
Pat Brown Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Fall transition has begun here . Vegetation is dying/shad are moving shallow again, nights are getting cooler, daytime cold fronts coming every week with chilly rains. It's well underway here. Should be really feeling fally by mid August but it's flickering to life right now. Plenty of summer left in the tank but it's not something that happens all at once. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted July 31, 2024 Global Moderator Posted July 31, 2024 Yeah Buddy!! The older I get the harder it is to live down here. It’s 9:06 am and it’s so hot and humid already it’s hard to breathe and we still have 2 more months of this. Yeah, I’ve been ready Mike 5 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 More than ready, pal. Even my early trip a few days ago was despicable...a person should not be sweating that much that early in the morning. Last evening's trip was just as bad...even after sunset it was too hot to be comfortable...only catching fish kept my mind off of it. 4 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 TX has been cooler this year so I’m currently happy with where we’re at. August could be a good month of fishing this year. I don’t like early fall and mid fall for fishing but late fall is fantastic. In Missouri, fall can be stunningly gorgeous. 7 Quote

We always heard that bass bite good the last hour before dark. Not always true. By that time, the lake has been baking in the hot sun all day. It's still hot. 2 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 Yes sir, I am indeed ready for Fall here in Ga. I've had enough of the heat. My vitamin D is getting low from doing everything possible at night. 4 1 Quote
Zcoker Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Fall can't come fast enough here in south Fla. Not only is hurricane season nearing its final chapter (hopefully with no direct hits!) the fishing is so much more pleasant. I mainly fish at night during the summer months but in the Fall I like the daytime sessions, coolness for south Florida standards, which would be upper 70's to low 80's instead of high 90's to over 100 degrees! uggg 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 all of you shut your mouth. Never wish away time that you can never get back. Don't like to fish right now? Do something else and let the rest of us go to it. Pretty soon fall will be gone and most are gonig to be looking for soft water and begging for ice out. 7 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 I hear ya man. Generally some good things will happen for me in September but I skipped work many of days on Columbus Day in October and had best days ever. Rain or shine. Doesn’t work out that way ever fall for me but PB fish have been in the fall. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 Mid and late August right through into September can be Almost as good as April for me up this way. Plus size fish seemed less concentrated but when they come shallow they are there to eat. Also late summer is some of the most comfortable days of the year. Something I would not say about April. Prime time for open water Topwater baits as well. Huge fan of just about ALL of that.deal. Fish Hard A-Jay 5 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 I'm finally acclimated to the heat, so I'm alright where we're at. I don't mind getting out and fishing in the midday sun anymore. Plus, it's been a fairly mild summer for us this year. One of the best in years. I kind of hate for it to end, because I know next year won't repeat this trend. The fall here is pretty worthless, just like the spring. We usually only have a few random days of good weather, as we swing between extremes. But, I do eventually get to stop mowing, and that opens up more time on my weekends, which can be put towards more fishing! That's the funny thing about Oklahoma. If you look at our weather averages, it looks really nice here. But we get those averages by swinging back and forth between extremes. So like October might have an average temperature of 72°. But to get that, we'll have two weeks of 92° and two weeks of 52°. And 52° doesn't seem THAT bad, but coming off months of 90°+, it hurts. It's a common complaint of people who move here from other states that the weather reality does not match the brochure. 2 Quote
tholmes Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 I'm ready for cooler weather, for sure. Yesterday, we had an afternoon high of 103 with the heat index at 112. Brutal heat. Due to some health issues, I can't stay out in that kind of heat for very long, so I spent the afternoon overhauling a few old reels that I've picked up at yard sales - and playing my guitar. The past 3 months have been stunning and glorious. Plenty of moisture, no drought, and very little wildfire smoke. Prior last weekend we only had one day when it was 90 degrees. Last year by this time we had over 20 of them already. Normally I'd agree on welcoming fall but not this year. We haven't had any extreme heat until the past few days. Relief is on the way too. By next week, it looks much cooler. 2 Quote
ironbjorn Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 It's been summer for 6 weeks and we're talking about a fall transition and seeing the beginnings of fall.....on July 31st LOL. I'm never ready for summer to end. At least with summer you have options. Early morning, at night, cooler days, lots of water, jump in the lake, etc etc. Then winter comes and the options are zero or close to zero for many of us. Winter is long and it's horrible. 2 Quote
Texas Flood Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Im ready for fall the moment spring is over. 1 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 If this was a normal summer here I could easily ride it out but it's been extremely hot and humid for weeks. Sooo yes, give me fall. 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 Not me, and I live next door to Satan this time of year. Fishing down here has been better than any other summer I've had thus far. Last August was one of my best months ever so I have high expectations again this year. The fishing in July, and August down here is only matched by Jan., Feb., and March fishing. 3 Quote

Texas Flood Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 I have no problem fishing in the summer as long as there is a breeze. Hot day and zero wind is a no for me dawg. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 31, 2024 Super User Posted July 31, 2024 The first maple on my road has already turned. It's fire engine red. I'm not in a big hurry for fall, however, for that means shorter and shorter days. However, those short days sure are pretty. 5 Quote
