Is there fishing in the summer Olympics? No ? All set.

The men's 100 meter dash yesterday was awesome.  Its one of the marquee events at the summer olympics even though it only lasts about 10 seconds.

A photo finish showed that American Noah Lyles won even though it appeared that Jamaican runner Kishane Thompson initially did.  They had the exact same time; however, Lyles torso crossed the finish line 5/1000 of a second faster.  Its not the runner's head, hands, or feet as a measurement, its the midsection arount the waist.  He's the first American to win the 100 meter dash in 20 years.

He can also now claim to be the fastest human on earth for the time being.  Another American, Fred Kerley, came in third and claimed bronze.

At the halfway point of the games, the United States has a commanding lead in the medal count: a whopping 75 medals.  The next closest country is China with 52.

The women’s uneven bars just blow my mind.

I don't understand happens in the relay?

No medal in like 24 years but all every guy makes the 100 finals.

Why not just take the 4th to 8th fastest runners and teach them to pass the baton?

All the events catch my interest. I used to be a casual runner doing 10K runs, so I can appreciate what the athletes are going though even though I was just a slow poke in comparison.

Of course women's beach volleyball is quite "interesting" too.

The ladies soccer just beat heavily favored Brazil for gold.

I don’t understand how it can be so poor for so long either.

Relays are different than just sprints. The baton exchange is key. The person waiting has to accelerate just at the right moment when the person passing it gets into the exchange zone. A team may not have the fastest runners but they make 3 really good exchanges which could mean a better finish.

As I was watching a couple relays yesterday, the announcers said that the USA won 34 medals in track & field which included 14 golds. Unreal dominance.
