Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 28, 2024 Super User Posted July 28, 2024 I inherited a number of Yum Dingers (4" & 5") from a friend and found both sizes to be rather poor as a wacky rigged stick worm due to their lighter weight and low salt content (i.e. no action achieved falling through the water column) . *By going to a weighted wacky jig head (Berkley Fusion weedless wacky jig head or a VMC weedless wacky jig head) - both in 1/16th oz. ` 1/8th oz. will add action on the fall , as well as , popping the Yum Dinger off of the bottom (like a startled craw) using weighted wacky jig heads will aid in getting some much needed added movement to the Yum Dinger ends. You can also make your own weighted wacky jig head using your favorite wacky rig hook , a 1/16th oz. 1/8th oz. bullet weight pegged close to the hook eye with a rubber bobber stop . A VMC #1 size weedless Neko hook with a pegged 1/16th oz. to 1/8th oz. bullet weight is very good and cost-effective way to add weight to a wacky rig. *The Yum Dinger is a great stick worm and comes in some great colors - but if you plan to wacky rig the Yum Dinger, I believe it does much better with a little weight added . Brian11719 Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 I wouldn't recommend the Yum Dinger for wacky rigging. The Senko has the right amount of weight for the action and some others you might consider are the Berkley Powerbait Maxscent General, Strike King Ocho, Bass Pro Shops Stik-o and Sixth Sense Clout. I do like the 4" Yum Dinger for a weedless ned rig or if I want to wacky rig a drop shot, but for a regular wacky worm these are the ones I would suggest if you don't want to throw a Senko. That said I love the Senko and green pumpkin watermelon laminate, gooseberry laminate, watrmln copper org red laminate, and electric shad are all awesome. You can also find them on sale sometimes...for example Dick's looks like they have a buy 3 get 3 free going right now so that's basically 50% off if you order 6 packs. Quote
Super User gim Posted July 28, 2024 Super User Posted July 28, 2024 You could also insert a nail weight into the stubby end. I use this setup a lot this time of year when fish are set up on deep weed lines. Yum dingers are more durable than Yamamoto. I prefer the Yamamoto for straight up wacky rigging though as it has a better natural fall rate. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 28, 2024 Super User Posted July 28, 2024 Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. If I am not doing well with a 5” Senko WR, I’ll rig a Yum Dinger. There have been times they were just the ticket. 1 Quote

The Baron Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Our go-to wacky setup is either a Yamamoto or Yum Dinger, always with a 1/16oz. VMC jighead, occasionally 1/8oz. if fishing a bit deeper. The Senko falls a bit faster than the YD, but both have better action with a weighted head IMHO. Quote
GRiver Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 I will use split shot on the hook near the eye for wacky rig, I can add a little, or a lot. 2 Quote

A 1/16th oz. & 1/8th oz. cover me for various stick worm scenarios (depending on make . salt content , depth and wind) . Currently using VMC Wackey Jig Heads along with the Berkley Fusion Wacky Jig Heads - admittedly , there are other good ones I haven't discovered yet . Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 29, 2024 Global Moderator Posted July 29, 2024 The YUM Dinger is great on a T-rig with a light bullet weight and pitched around cover. It's more durable than other sticks, and cheaper, so it's my bait of choice for doing this. 3 Quote
