I don't need to. I've serviced hundreds of reels fished in my local waters. I've never found anything in a gearbox but old grease, emulsified grease, and perhaps some sand grains near the weep holes if the person made it a habit of dropping their reel into the dirt, which is very rare.

Horse hockey. You're way out of your lane.

Bud, you didn't state an opinion. You make a statement of fact. which happens to be false. You're entitled to your own opinion, even kooky ones, but not your own facts.

Stick an "IMO" or "in my hands" at the end of something goofy like this next time and perhaps you won't get any pushback. Definitely not from me anyway. The fact is that if Tat SVs, or Tat 150s, or Zillions were only capable of 50' casts they'd never make it to the market.

Hmm interesting because 3 of them did make it to the market.

As much as id love to sit here all day arguing with you, no thanks. Im sorry ive upset you by saying facts about getting defective products, im sorry if you cant accept reality of a company making a bad reel that isnt perfect. Have a nice day!

I could do some looking into it, but Im really not sure if I want to do that.

I'm looking at spending another $100+ on line and lures/baits so I'm trying to be careful with spending lol.

To each their own, but I'd rather skip buying a lure or three and have the better reel.  The reel will last you forever.  The lure might not make it back on the next cast.

As for the rest of the replies debating about "yes it can cast far" or "no it cant"

I think everyone just has had different experiences. Line and what weight you're using is a big factor.

Someone using 17lb flouro/mono isn't going to go as far as someone using 30-50lb braid

For one of the frog distance threads a couple weeks back I put all of my reels onto one rod and started casting a frog for distance so there was some semblence of comparison.  My Zillion has 17 lb mono (and thick 17 mono at that).  It was tossing a 1/2 oz frog right around 35 yards on a 7'3" rod.  Yes, other reels were further (the shimanos in particular) but when comparing comparable diameter lines (50 braid vs 17 mono) there wasn't much in it.  A yard or two here or there.  For the premise of that thread (the OP was trying to get as much distance as humanly possible) maybe it meant something but anyone who says that a zillion won't cast more than 50' either has a broken one or doesn't know what they are doing.  I'd happily buy that reel off you now for $75 (it's bropken after all, right?) and video my own casting with it.

Oh no the Zillion casts extremely far, with a 1/2oz Warpig i can get 10' more than my Tatula CT.

But with anything else thats not as aerodynamic its under half that, weightless worms and flukes its about 30'.

Tried several rods, brake settings, and even adjusting the Zero Adjuster....

I was going to make it my lipless reel because its the one thing it does great, but the reels to smooth feeling and too small for my hands, definitely will be selling it and buying another SLX MGL and a Fuego CT. And you are probably right, It might be broken, it was an open box reel after all, and on sale for 40% off..... But its got the same problem as my other 2 Daiwas, so might have to send them to them to check out whats going on with them.

And i know im the minority here, not many people have had issues with these reels, but 3 of them? All the same problem? And im a big Dawia fan, ill use my Tatula CT until the gears no longer turn. And refuse to put down my 14 Aird X rods for anything else. I read the reviews, did the research, watched the videos.

I know they should cast great, but they dont. I know i must be a liar, cuz how could Daiwa ever make a faulty reel during and post covid when everyones qc is literally 0.

Could you have a dud?  Maybe one. Three?  No way. I’d bet that the diawa braking system just doesn’t work for your casting style.

I've got a couple Tatula's.  The brakes are way too aggressive for me, even turned down really low.   For me they're distance robbers.   For ~$130 I'd recommend a Shimano SLX XT.   They're super nice reels with centrifugal brakes that are easily adjusted.

What rods were you using when you were doing your test? Imo anything weightless should be thrown on bfs or spinning gear if you want to cast far. The only way you are going to improve distance with those baits is using an aftermarket shallow spool. It sounds like your using the wrong tool for the job and blaming the tool.

a weightless 5" senko weighs almost 3/8 oz.  Any self respecting MH can throw 3/8 a long way.

The Zillion and SLX MGL i bought come from the factory with shallow spools meant for either heavier baits like pitching/flipping, and also for lighter baits like weightless for an example.

The main reason i bought both was for weightless baits and lighter/smaller crankbaits, however i liked the SLX MGL much more with football jigs and swim jigs, so thought the Zillion could fill the gap for weightless.

On the first few trips i pretty much only used Ochos (senkos) and Caffeine Shads (flukes), both should weigh right under or above 3/8oz. Any reel should be able to cast them, but this ones supposed to cast it far. It was very underwhelming, i tried several different brake and zero adjuster settings but couldnt get the distance, the most i could get (using the inside of my house length in yards for example) was about 18 yards/54 feet, but that was with the heavier Caffeine Shads, with the Ochos it was significantly less....

I thought maybe the M rod was too short and too weak so i chose the MH for the next trip to my other local lake. It was also very underwhelming, and disappointing.... I ended up just cutting the line and tying on other lures to test the reel....

But with both rods the 1/2oz Red Eye Shad, and 1/2oz Warpig were fantastic with distance and ease of cast, was able to cast it about 10' farther than any reel ive used for them yet. And barely had to thumb the reel even with lower brake setting.

If the reel werent too small for my hands i would love to keep it just for lipless cranks, but it just isnt comfortable to hold. And to be honest i also prefer a more geary feeling reel.

Hence the Imo in my statement. I have never had good luck throwing weightless on a bait caster so I choose to throw it on a spinning reel.

Update on the thread here!

So after talking with a member here and some research, I figured I should get a reel meant more for saltwater since the rivers I usually fish have varying levels of salt content (some low, some high).

I decided to go with the Daiwa Coastal SV TW. Which normally is around $270, but on Tackle Warehouse they had a sale that brought it down to $150, so I decided to bite the bullet on it and spend the extra $40 on a reel made more for salt.

It was built for the intended use to be inshore saltwater fishing for red drum, speckled trout, and Bass, which is exactly what I fish for. So it just seemed to fit my needs.

Plus that blue is absolutely awesome looking.

Should be arriving in 2-3 days as far as I know
