She did great!  Casting was good with baitcaster.  Got 2 backlashes and got them out herself!  Asked good questions.  We had fun!  I didn't fish, just ran the boat and refrained from trying to tell her everything I know!

Awesome! We need more details. How many did she catch, and on what?

Thank you all for your comments!  Fishing was kinda tough, frogs, buzzbait, swim worm didn't work.  I gave her a Bomber 1/4 oz model A and she fished it on break off of main lake flats in 6 fow.  She caught 6 bass and 2 crappie in about an hour.  The rod and reel came from BPS, I didn't look too close but it said Major League Fishing on it.  I was very surprised how well she could cast.  We will go again!

I fish with my 11 year old son almost every day.

People kinda give me funny looks and are hesitant to fish with me when I tell them he's coming sometimes a tiny bit - until they get in the boat and see him fish.

He's passionate and consumed with nature and the sport and it tickles me to no end.

I remember being a kid and fishing with my dad and how special and exciting it was to become consumed with the pursuit of fish with him - sharing that with my son is sublime.

I enjoy when Jake invites a friend fishing who likes it but doesn't know *much* and we get them on some fish!

IMHO - it's all about the love of the sport and the outdoors and the only way it's gonna survive is if we keep sharing it.

Good on you sir!

Great job! I love taking people fishing who do not fish. I actually rarely go with a bass head.  It will be my dad or someone who might fish once a year or less. Many times it’s their first time on a boat. They usually find it very enjoyable. I just always give the disclaimer I am terrible at fishing so I can’t promise anything.

Great job.  As I reported in the Eastern PA fishing reports I took my 7yo grandson out Friday.  He had never caught a bass before.  He landed a nice on I estimate between 3 and 4 lbs on an unweighted shad colored Senko.  It was on a dropoff that had submerged timber that I notice on the side finder sonar.

Update:  we have been out 4 times now.  She continues to learn.  Last week we fished in 45 degree water and air temp was the same with sun and calm conditions.  My goal was to teach her to fish a jig.  She caught 6!

@Swamp Girl  Thank you!  It was your great advice way back when I asked for help the first time I took her that contributed to this success!

I now have 5 grandchildren under 7 years old, and I took my own children fishing at a very young age many years ago.  I learned some valuable lessons early in this process.  With very young kids don't plan on fishing yourself.  You are now the master baiter for that entire trip, the cast guru for all participants, possible hook removal medical team, the food distributor, and also the rod and reel recovery team.  A little rod floater attached is a great idea.  Warn them all that the floating logs with legs are not friendly creatures and should never be fed.  Then keep all trips short, with lots of different snacks and drinks.  Snack time is break time, because grandpa is not very good a multi tasking.  A mason jar becomes an emergency pee jar, and once one starts it becomes contagious.   Cheerios and Rice Krispies are also great chumming tools.  Two hours is max time for little ones, and believe me you will feel like you just went 10 rounds with Muhammed Ali!

Once they reach about ten they can hang, cast all day, and fish with Dad or Grandpa as long as they want.  Always a fun time!
