So what all do you guys attach to spinner baits?

I always use a trailer and have used most of those mentioned above.  This year I switched to a Z man Scented Jerk Shad 3.5 inch.  The slim profile and buoyancy aid in keeping the spinnerbait from rolling over.

Usually a Manns classic spinnerbait trailer, or nothing.  I think a trailer is secondary to weight and blade(s).  I use a trailer or fine tune the depth it will run at, at the speed I'm wanting to retrieve it.

I don't use a trailer. I do use a trailer hook if I'm in the notion.

I forgot about those. I have had a couple of them a friend gave me, sure does look good, I might have to give them a try.

 

I did try them as stand alone bait, rigged on a ned head. I didn't get anythign the couple times I tried it, but that's not much of a test.

How do you change the depth it runs at, Woody? If I want mine to run deeper, I count to five after it lands instead of one or three before starting my retrieve. I can't go much deeper than five without hitting weeds.

A bigger trailer will help keep it "up".  I can use a slower retrieve while still maintaining the same depth.   IE with trailer trailer like a Zoom Fat Albert, or Strike King twin tail menace grub you should be able to use a slower retrieve and still keep it above the grass.   A smaller trailer or no trailer will require a faster retrieve to keep above the grass........or a slower retrieve to get down to the grass.   Either way you still need to let it sink to the level you want it to run at.  Different trailers, (and blade combinations) will require different speeds to not come up, or drop down during retrieve.

I forgot about those too. In the right color, they are the exception to my rule about spinnerbait trailers. They're more like an extension of the skirt.

 

They can be very effective just t-rigged with a light bullet too. They're better with a 1/0 EWG, but a 2/0 will just barely fit. Run the hook between the forks. I use to have good luck with them, but only in one color that I can't find anymore.

 

I've never seen the Mann's version in stores, but it probably works just as well.

on top of what woody said, rod tip high will keep it higher. Bigger blades and

more cupped blades grab more water and keep it up. If you want to fish one really slow, then a big Colorado blade on a 3/8 with a high rod tip will wake the surface. The same spinnerbait with a double willow and a low rod tip will fish 2’ deeper for the same speed of retrieve. My default is a 1/2 oz tandem for a good balance of thump and flash. I can fish it just under the surface or 5-7’ down easily enough. If I want to fish faster then it’s a double willow and small blades (like a megabass sv3). If I know I’m in shallow grass and want to fish it slow then a 3/8 Colorado/Indiana combo is great.

I'm a fan of the Spunk Shad. A lot of the time I just raw dog it though.

I like either nothing, a split tail trailer, a yum pulse swimbait trailer, a power worm trailer, a cut down trick worm, a cut down magnum trick worm, or a grub. Lots of stuff works. I choose trailers to make the spinnerbait behave differently or to add size and attraction.

Fluke has worked great for me. I recently added the Zoom split tails to my arsenal, too and like what I see.

 

I hate trailer hooks on spinnerbaits or buzzbaits.

90% of the time, I'm in the same boat as A-Jay. I normally don't like having any extra 'drag' with my spinnerbaits, so I usually stay away from paddletail swimbaits. The Blade Minnow just adds a nice profile to the spinnerbait. I'll usually trim the head off of the trailer to make a more compact profile.

Thanks. I thought they'd work well by themselves, but haven't done much with them yet.

Save your used paddletails that have the tail ripped off. They’re perfect as spinner bait and chatterbail trailers… and anyone who fishes paddle tails regularly has plenty of them readily available.

Good choice - I use a Zoom plain original 4” Fluke . Some Spinnerbait experts believe a bass will either smash or suck in a Spinnerbait . If a bass smashes a Spinnerbait it doesn’t matter if you have a trailer or not  . If a bass chooses instead to suck in a Spinnerbait - then having a soft plastic trailer attached helps a bass suck in a Spinnerbait better versus having just a skirt attached . So why not use a soft plastic trailer to cover both bass Spinnerbait bite scenarios ? For me , using a Fluke on a spinnerbait is a profile and confidence thing .

Lately it's been the spunk shad or freeloader for a spinnerbait trailer. The spunk shad is a little lighter which I prefer since the ones I throw seem to have plenty of weight already...
