Eh, I'm not really focused on spool tension caps while I'm fishing, so I'm far less upset about that. But hey, you do you. 5 hours ago, ABU is overpriced said: Then why would you have that on a Steez? I suppose they have their reasons, one being that Daiwa's braking system does work best without leaning into the spool tension. More than that, doing so seems to cause more problems than it solves. We had a thread here from a new-to-Daiwa guy a few years ago who couldn't stop blowing up. After questioning him, he finally revealed that he was slow dropping his baits with spool tension. Once he learned to stop that, his problem went away. 3 Quote

My brother's down there now for the week. Says he's melting in the heat and humidity and that the bite is super tough.🤣 That’s funny I’m from Ronk originally then moved out to Port Jeff in 2016 before coming down here last Sep. yeah it’s hot down here this time of year we average around 93 with 80% humidity but I’m pretty used to it now. Once you get out of the summer though it’s perfect weather the rest of the year. Quote
Eric 26 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 (edited) @Jayd0976 I realize you pulled the trigger so congratulations on a nice setup and I’m still going to share directly from the Daiwa website anyway. The only difference may be the colored accents as I don’t remember the scheme but I believe the 6.3:1 is gold which is what you bought the 7 speed is red and the 8 speed was purple if I remember correctly. Yes, correct. Also I believe the one I bought is the older 2017 model. Where as the more expensive one is the newer 2020 model. Either way I’m a beginner so don’t really care just wanted something good, easy to learn on and on the cheaper side incase I don’t like it. So all in all it was a perfect buy to me as o see this reel mentioned over and over on here and other searches I’ve made. 1 Quote

We've been broiled here on LI for the past month, so it's nothing new. They're in one of the Dell Webb developments. A bunch of HOA ponds throughout and stocked. I did well in them. I'll PM you next time I'm down there and maybe we'll hit some up. Quote

Although the biggest I’ve caught is about 2.5lbs so far. Quote

ironbjorn Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 If you value the reel more, 7' MH/F Daiwa Aird-X rod paired with a Daiwa Fuego 7 speed reel or a Shimano SLX XT 7 speed reel. Both reels handle very well. The Fuego is bulkier and less comfortable, whereas the SLX is slimmer and more palmable. If you value the rod more, Dobyns Fury 704C rod paired with an Abu Garcia Black Max (now known as the Max X). Since you're new to bait casting you're probably going to want to worry more about the reel. Quote
